Why do we support our troops?

Our troops signed up for it, why is it hip to have "support our troops" stickers?

I see these bumper stickers all around saying "support our troops". Why?

Why didnt you vote in your own poll?
How do you feel about our troops?

Because they are over there in a hell-hole in Iraq risking their lives for a stupid-assed mistaken war their CiC ordered them to engage. Because many of the troops the CiC have sent there over and over are part time reservists who have jobs and families and are supposed to be mobilized only for real wars, but have been sent to Iraq again and again, and do their duty. Because over 3000 lives have been wasted and 20+ thousand maimed fighting for a mistake, pride, and arrogance.

I support them on the basis that they're my countrymen fighting for something they believe. I might not agree with how the situation has been handled but I do believe that most soldiers believe in their hearts that this was the right thing to do and I commend them for that and wish for them to come home asap.

It's hip to have those bumper stickers so that people who support this war can feel better about themselves for NOT sacrificing anything. And they have the added bonus of being able to wag their fingers at those traitors among us who obviously hate America because we don't have the $2 bumper sticker.

I knew you were a traitor. DEATH TO YOU SOBS! *Waves U.S. flag around and plays hail to chief on his xylophone* We all know you can't be american unless you have a flag wrapped around your head like a ****ing hijab.

Because those troops whether you agree with this war or not, form the line that could one day stand between you and something a whole lot worse than the current conflict on the other side of the world.
We support them because they have pledged to defend their country and to offer their lives if need be so we can sit here and snivel about how awful our government is and how much it mistreats us.

I certainly don't support anybody based on the fact that they are merely my country men. We've got a situation here in America very much like the Germans had in the 30s. You've got to wake up and start taking responsibility for allowing things to have gotten so far out of control.

We spend more money on our military than all other countries in the world combined. So I don't find it hard at all to say "lets not support our troops" support our military industrial complex. They are sucking our economy so badly that I yearn for the years we only had to worry about welfare recipients. It's time we start putting these kids into school instead of behind rifles.

Kinda hard to vote in a poll where the only answers are biased.

Maybe people support our troops, because our troops are willing to lay their lives on the line, not only for Americans, but for people around the world. It is certainly arguable that George Bush may have ulterior motives in Iraq, but the common solider, airmen, sailor or Marine is over there trying to make it a safer place for everyone. That is why people support their troops.

My support for the troops, has absolutly nothing to do with whatever commander in chief is in power.

How do you know that is all the people do that have "Support the Troops" signs on their cars.......I and several veteran friends of mine have them and we go to "Support the Troops rallys, donate airline mileage to them, greet them on their return at the airport, send care packages to them, etc,,,,,,,,,

That all sounds nice. Support them because they are there to risk their lives to support freedom. However what about supporting intelligence? Don't you think there are better ways to support our freedom than with a rifle? Just because they don't see this doesn't mean I will support them.

You are right about the poll. It is very biased. If I could redo it I would make it less biased.

You know the Germany/Nazi nonsense is a favorite little obfuscation of the left. This silly idea that the Bush administration has become tyranical and taken over the country, subverting the will of the people and sending out hoards of brown shirts to do his bidding.
In less than two years there will be a new president elected by the people, how can you compare that to the Nazi system?

This is silliness that doesn't address the problems and doesn't point to answers.

1) the differance between us and nazi germany is that many americans support the troops, but not the cause.

2)please show me a source that says we spend more money on our military then every other country in the world combined.

3) men or women (not kids) have to be in school before they are behind a rifle. you have to be 18 to be in the military, wich means you are an adult.
and also most military personel are very well educated, i belive(but im not sure) you have to have a high school diploma to be accepted into the military.

IMO, you are attributing your disagreement for the policy with what the troops are doing. The troops don't make policy, and IMO it is wrong to blame them for it.

Then you are the exception, not the rule. Most people who have those bumper stickers think that they ARE supporting the troops just by having the bumper sticker, and that any other contribution is unnecessary.

Conservatives are all for supporting the troops, except when it comes to actually having to pay for it.

1) None of the Germans that I know supported the cause once they knew what was going on. Yet we still have people on these forums supporting Bush...

2) List of countries by military expenditures - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

3) Being 18 hardly makes you an adult. And as a result many kids aren't allowed to drink until they are 21. Most insurance companies keep the rates up high until the 30s. People don't really gain the wisdom to make their own decisions wisely until they've got a bit of experience under their belt. At 18 all they are good for is physical labor without the intelligence to ask the real questions. Hit them while they don't know any better and force them to stay there until you can't. Hardly seems fair. However on the other hand those kids who would allow their freedoms to be taken away deserve what they get. If they are stupid enough to fall for it then don't they deserve it? Kind of like a sick Darwinian joke.

I really don't know how you can make that generalization......Well yeah I do but I don't honestly believe your serious.....

Murtha and Kucinich are the ones talking about cutting funds to the troops..........Not even you can say they are Conservatives...........

1) the german people were mislead, but regardless, they supported hitlers cause of a stronger germany

2)you are right, we do spend more money on our military then every othe country combined, but there is a chart on the right of that that shows military spending as percent of gdp. it shows that america spends 4% of its gdp on its military, which is pretty average.

3)that is your opinion, but BY LAW an 18 year old is an adult, and if they are going into the military, then they are an adult who has graduated high school.

Don't you think there are better ways to support our freedom than with a rifle?

Yes there are better ways, but sometimes even those don't work out, making the rifle necessary. Only a fool deals with his enemies by prostrating before them.

Murtha and Kucinich are the ones talking about cutting funds to the troops..........Not even you can say they are Conservatives...........

So are you willing to pay higher taxes to provide those funds for the troops?

Compared to a "surplus" due to defense cuts and 9/11 (think CLINTOON)? Heck yeah. That's just common sense.

You're the kind of liberal I can have a beer and a discussion with, great answer! The only time I get angry is when the troops get slighted in all of this, they have simply answered the call of duty and are doing their best, that's truly all we can ask of them and we owe them big.

It's hip to have those bumper stickers so that people who support this war can feel better about themselves for NOT sacrificing anything. I get upset when someone simply puts a sticker or flag out to show everyone how great of a patriot they are, some of those with said stickers are the same one's who would laugh at anyone who displayed their flags before 9/11 and automatically called them rednecks or worse. The only problem is that many of the people who do have these stickers do in fact have a dog in the fight, for example, one of my co-workers almost lost her son in Iraq after he was shot, thankfully he's recovering, anyway, she's a military mom all the way, the stickers and flags are prominant. While I don't have any immediate family in the war and was wrapping up college when all of this broke out, I do sacrifice time to put together care packages with my family or load them on trucks when needed, anything to help these guys out, of course, I don't exactly wave the flag in anyone's face, I believe it should be a more personal thing, but I can certainly understand anyone with a relative proudly displaying these bumper stickers.

I support the troops because they made the simple mistake of believinng the president, ad ended up risking their lives for it.
