Why do some Democrats not want Bernie as their nominee?

An open discussion on the reasons why some Democrats don't want Bernie as the nominee. What does he stand for that you don't? What will the future of the Democratic Party look like if he wins the nomination? Why do you not want him as your nominee? Please discuss.

I don't want Bernie as the nominee because he can't beat Trump.

Anyone remember McGovern?

This is your fundamental misunderstanding -- Sanders is more of a Democrat than any other Democrat in the field. Sanders is a true FDR Democrat, who rails against crony capitalism and the crooks on Wall Street.

You "moderate" Democrats are really not much different than Republicans from the 1970s. In terms of actual public policy, there is probably not much difference between you and Richard Nixon. As the Republican Party has become bat**** crazy over the past 40 years and more right wing, you "moderate" Democrats are basically the 1970s Republicans who were left behind.

This is YOUR fundamental misunderstanding: I'm not a Democrat. LOL

And if you were paying attention, I just recently - as recently as yesterday and in this very thread, see post #191 - defended the good senator when someone said he isn't a Democrat - I said, that's not that relevant as he has caucused with the Democrats his entire political life.

I have no problem with Sanders for siding with the Democrats. I'm just saying, he won't be elected in 2020 without the moderates, and he simply won't, as much as the inexperienced and naive Millennial generation believes that they know it all and can do it all, all by themselves. They are in for a rude awakening (like EVERY generation before them and after them). Of course, it is part of the arrogance of youth that they will take a while to realize it; several years, even. But one day, they will realize it, and then, the generations behind them will be yelling at them that they are just old people out of touch who don't know anything, and they'll be told that the new generation knows it all and will do it all by themselves.

Yawn. Been there, done that. This issue never fails to repeat itself.

OK, then why does Sanders need your vote? If you sit out the election, then you're not helping Sanders or Trump.

Since you're not a Democrat, you don't really know how Democrats think.

If Sanders can't beat Trump, then who can?

Likely no one. Trump is a genius of mass psychology, stage, theater and illusion.

What you need is someone who is loved like is old Joe but someone sharp like little Pete.

The Dems have no such individual running.

Best bets, Bloomberg, Biden or Pete.

Warren needs someone to throw some water on her so she melts.

My one vote of course won't tip the balance, but the millions of moderate and independent voters will. Why does he need our votes? Because there aren't enough ultra-progressive types out there to elect him, it's as simple as that. You are NOT the majority of American voters (again, it is part of the arrogance of youth to suppose that you are). When you see polls showing Sanders beating Trump, you are ALREADY seeing the moderates factored in, because if the polls singled out just ultra-progressive types, you'd probably be seeing him with at most 10% of the voters.

So, beware of who you alienate with your contempt. Piss off enough people, and you may find yourself isolated, and on the losing side.

To beat Trump, Sanders needs a coalition. He can do it, but it won't be easy, and it won't be done just by his own supporters. People like me who aren't crazy about him but still feel that he is better than Trump, will ALSO be needed.

No, I won't sit out the election. I'm very anti-Trump and will do my best to beat him. I hope to multiply my one vote by convincing other moderates who might be over the fence to vote for the Dem nominee, and will try to multiply it more by donating to the campaign, and by volunteering my time, for example, going on registration drives to put back on the voter rolls, people who were wrongly expunged from it, in the GOP's concerted effort to suppress the vote of certain demographics.

You just admitted that you're not a Democrat, so you don't understand how conservative Democrats think.

A conservative Democrat is still more liberal than you are. You make a lot of poor assumptions about conservative Democrats. Millions of conservative Democrats would most definitely rally around Sanders as the nominee, because they know he is a much better alternative than Trump.

Trump may win the electoral vote again. However, there is no way he will win the popular vote. No Republican candidate will ever win the popular vote again, not without Putin's help.

Depends on what the GOP becomes post Trump. Right now it is a party of Trump bitches. If teh GOP becomes normalized again, no reason to think they won't be elected.

Trump has permanently destroyed all trust in the Republican Party. The recent impeachment trial vote in the Senate is a mark of shame and dishonor that the Republican Party will never live down. I think it's quite possible that there will be no more Republican Party once Trump is gone.

There is no more republican party now. Don't let a name fool ya.
