Why do Liberals typically call Conservatives "Racists"? Is that racist?

I would initially challenge the statement that there are numerous examples of liberals calling conservatives racist. But the underlying question is if this is a prevalent liberal belief. I have no data, so going off of my experiences alone I would agree that a majority of liberals believe that conservatives hold prejudicial views of minority's. I don't agree with this, as I know many conservatives and am friends with a large number, and they are no more prejudiced than I am, and I don't believe I am at all.

1. Is this true liberals typically do this? (For those who doubt)

I believe the above question asks if liberals actually believe that many Republicans are racist. No, but I believe many liberals believe conservatives to be prejudiced against minority's.

2. Are conservatives racist?

Being a conservative does not make you racist. Being a racist does not make you conservative. I think it is common for a liberal to see white supremacists and skinheads and KKK members, and assume that they are all voting republican. While this may or may not be true, the Republican party cannot control who votes for them. But the Republican Party platform is not anymore racist than the Democratic Party platform.

3. Are liberals racist for persistently using the race card?

No, but I do believe my fellow liberals are sometimes guilty of being too sensitive to issues involving race, especially when it comes to Southern white Republicans.

4. Are they and/or we all racist? To some degree?

No, but it is human nature to fear what we don't understand and that which we find different. This isn't racism, but it is an internal prejudice that we all fight with on a daily basis. It becomes racism when you act on those thoughts.

I think it's more like: studies indicate that the vast majority of welfare recipients rarely achieve an above-poverty level income during or after their time on welfare, and that many children raised on welfare will end up on welfare themselves as adults. The social position of welfare recipients does not typically change because of the program.
 
So essentially, it's liberals' fault that black people haven't done better because liberals keep on giving them candy and junk food so that they end up obese for life.
 

This is true (and you know how I would like to reform welfare) however, this is not oppression. Noone is forcing these people to have this life, they choose it.

No, but we've done a damn good job of convincing them that this is a really good option for them. And we're not encouraging them to do better for themselves by essentially handing them money every month, either.

If they used welfare for what it was meant for, it would be a good option for them, there are plenty of examples of people using assistance to further their situation, but they take advantage of it and our society lets it happen, which means its inefficient and wasteful.

Exactly. But I would ask 'what's it meant for?", because I think most see it as "free money". I may be speaking out of turn, but I don't see a lot of welfare recipients with an attitude of gratitude or humility.

One time I forgot my wallet in my truck as I went into a store for a pack of gum and bottle of water. The girl rang me up and when i realized I didn't have my wallet I told her that I needed to go out to my truck real quick. The guy behind me said don't worry, he'd cover it for me, no problem. I punched him in the scrotum. We don't take kindly to oppressors round these parts.

My opinion is that welfare is a tool to be used to help people raise to a higher economic condition, not a lifestyle. Now obviously there are those that disagree, but I think we should just kick people with that attitude off the rolls since if its used that way, its not helping people either directly or indirectly.

I think it might actually be a problem with her video, not with the way she's trying to embed it. There are some videos i can't embed in my posts, like Daily Show vids. If that's the case, then just provide us with the hyperlinks.

I'm glad this came up, because I found this:

It essentially argues that the biggest hurdle we have in helping people transition off welfare (regardless of weight) is by providing full health and mental health screenings for themselves and their families. They report findings of depression and anxiety in many recipients - of levels that with treatment could easily be managed - but no one bothered to address it before sending them back to work (which they eventually faltered at).

It further shows that children with chronic untreated health problems led to some being chronically stuck on government aid; and that frequently treating and managing the child's illness would help the mother get back to work.

The welfare-to-work program could be a great idea, but it sounds as if we just went it to it without looking at all the avenues.

At least this paper suggests that a little more insight and upfront work in treating chronic, but not deadly, illnesses would assist people in breaking the lifestyle chain.
