Why did you choose the nickname that you have?

Oh good, it's been a couple and five years since we've done this. Always interesting, and new people with new names add to the interesting.

First one is free.

Awful
Shit
Happens
Every
Second

So I remember I don't have it so bad when I think I'm having a bad day.

ASHES is a relatively new name for my online activities. I used to go by Oddity, but I outgrew that.

It's an acronym I use to remind myself not to take a second for granted.

Awful Shit Happens Every Second

I wish to promote Peace on Earth.

Peace is to be cherished.

War is stupid and a tremendous waste. It is also very bad for the environment.
I could have guessed that.

My politics are summed up in my user name. I am a conservative leaning democrat.
Do you think this contributes or detracts from your individuality? Or do you not even care/consider that?

And here I thought you were thinking of dust to dust.

I hold positions which are both conservative and liberal. I find it easier to be non partisan and even analytical on most issues. In fact, I refer to myself as a mugwump. I would call that a benefit.

My detractors say I am a fence sitter, while I say I do not have to join any team….

This comes up every so often, but OrphanSlug is an old gamers tag of mine, loosely translated as random gunfire since I used to play a whole lot of FPS games.

Not as much these days, and my tag has changed over the years but that one was one of my originals from way back at the Unreal Tournament (1999,) Unreal Tournament 2003 (but in 2002, don't ask,) Unreal Tournament 2004 (actually in 2004 this time,) Call of Duty 2 (2005,) Battlefield 2 (2005,) Call of Duty 3 (2006,) etc. Plenty of others along the way.

Only play a bit these days, off and on, but that is the source of the name.

"Bok Tuklo County, Choctaw Nation was named from the Choctaw words bok, or “creek,” and tuklo, or “two.” The two creeks commemorated by the name were Lukfata Creek and Yasho Bok (now called Yasho Creek), which ran parallel to one another north to south, across much of the county."

It's a pun.

Me too, but I never considered calling myself a mugwump.

My detractors say I am a fence sitter, while I say I do not have to join any team….
I have also acquired that label, as well as bothsider, MAGA, libtard, etc. I don't form my identity around my politics or my politics around my identity, to the best of my ability.

Unreal Tournament (1999,)

Yes so many.

Same, but not the name, although it has followed me into some.

No kidding! Your username is my middle name too, even spelled right.
My father's side of the family has a tradition of using the same two names and reversing them for each generation. So Allan was my father's first name and my first name was his middle name. This goes back to my great great grandfather.

We're apparently very lazy about naming babies.
