Why Cops Like Me Are Quiet[W:49]

Re: Why Cops Like Me Are Quiet

While that's part of it, I don't think it's the whole answer. If enough of the good cops spoke out to condemn the actions of the bad ones, the departments couldn't afford to fire them all. There's strength in numbers.

Or here's an idea. Union leadership is voted on, so instead of just complaining about the fact that union leaders mindlessly support the actions of bad cops because "that's what unions do", how about instead, you vote for leaders who don't do that.

All this talk of unions.....

Means absolutely nothing to police in the south, who don't have them.

Re: Why Cops Like Me Are Quiet

I think the field rotation is a good idea. School teachers have such a policy in many areas.

First they'll teach 4th graders, then 8th graders then 1st graders. So they're not teaching the same types of kids every year. I'd love for there to be "school rotations" but that's asking too much.

But Precinct rotations for cops is doable for sure. And if possible, rotating in and out of desk duty probably wouldn't be so bad either.

Most departments actually already rotate them between divisions/precincts.... Of course, often its a voluntary thing (or involuntary as more officers are needed in a particular precinct/division ) for an officer to move.

They also have the opportunity to change shifts when someone retires or gets a job in investigations, or moves to another division and gives up their spot in a certain shift

Well the article brought them up, which is why I did.

Re: Why Cops Like Me Are Quiet

I don't see where " repeat their actions over and over again.....they get noticed. And when these stupid ****ers get caught....they resist, lie, or run." is translated into

Decision to act, such as these, are typically not racial, as there people of every race that make these choices, and commit these acts. The consequence of these choices and these acts are to be arrested, charged, and convicted, as would appear to be the proper thing to do.

That one statement might not say that but his statements over the past whatever that I have read them easily translate into that...

Re: Why Cops Like Me Are Quiet

Well, that'd be a matter of statistics, numbers, and facts. What's for sure is that they do appear to commit more violent crimes per capital than the rest of the population. So what's your problem with the statement?

That he keeps making anti-black comments...

Umm...that'd be per capita (yeah, I'm a grammar nazi :2razz:)

Whatever, I'm not going to get into a pissing contest with you here over whether your "statistics, numbers, and facts" are valid. My "problem with the statement" is (1) the post you quoted played the race card in reverse and (2) your post dishonestly omitted that.

I admit guilt at the typo.

No one seems to believe that per Occam's Razor, it's most likely that minorities do in fact commit more violent crimes, and do so more so against their own as opposed to other races. Ahh, well. The politically excessively over-correct root run deep.

Re: Why Cops Like Me Are Quiet

If you are not a police officer you do not understand the job. It is that simple. I don't know your job stresses and you don't know mine. (I am not a police officer). Largely Americans fear a police state and this country was founded on violence from the Revolutionary War, to the wars with the original Americans to slavery our history is bloody. Too many misguided people think they are constitutional experts when it comes to getting a traffic citation. This government is still in the experimental stages and there is no guarantee it will last. I am not against killing, like all things it has it's place but we are a flawed species to say the least and to some killing means absolutely nothing.

Re: Why Cops Like Me Are Quiet

I don't think it's all that great.

He writes eloquently, but his excuses are the same ones that are trotted out by cops over and over and over again. "Our jobs are stressful", "We're people just like you and we make mistakes", "Most cops are good people, there are only a few bad ones", "If we seem cold it's just a defense mechanism", and "Cops get killed too, but no one seems to care about that". There's nothing new or different there.

And his main argument is a load of bull. To quote the article:

This is the age of high speed internet, smartphones, and social media. It has never before in human history been easier to make your voice heard. If the 80% of cops for whom it is "just a job" wanted to make their voices heard and condemn the actions of the 10% who are assholes, it would be trivial for them to do so. But they don't. So that's obviously not the reason for it.
Unless you have actually worn the badge. You have no clue.
Funny how cops are critiqued by the citizens they serve. Yet no such critique is made of other professions.
I personally think real estate "pros" are worthless piles of crap. Yet you never hear or see an article where they have to defend themselves from the constant onslaught of public "opinion".

Only if you're wearing blinders.

Yea, um no. Show me the constant online, social media, main stream news, bashing of cops in this nation over a different profession.

Re: Why Cops Like Me Are Quiet

So the only person that can judge whether a cop is right or wrong is another cop? How convenient for the cops. And surely this sort of setup couldn't possibly lead to any bias of course.

Yes, exactly, this is the key point. Police exist to serve the public. So of course we have the right to critique their performance.

Yet no such critique is made of other professions.

What a ridiculous claim. Of course people complain about other professions. Doctors, lawyers, and politicians probably get the most crap from the public. I hear it about my own profession pretty frequently. "What idiot engineer designed this."

If you really think police are the only profession to get public criticism, you're either uninformed or biased.

Re: Why Cops Like Me Are Quiet

I always thought it ironic when people would say I was “too smart” to be a police officer. Just how dumb do they want the officers guarding their lives to be?

But the people saying that are..... wait for it.... The cops...

Never on here have I seen a harsh comment about say, mechanics. Or lawn guys. Or dentists.
And that engineer you speak of, do you want him jailed? Ruined? Retrained? Hung?
Quote threads or posts from here about other professions with as much zeal and hatred as it works with the police.
From people that would never in a million years be able to be a cop.

Could that possibly have anything to do with the fact that this is a political debate forum? I bet if you go on a car forum, you'll see a lot more complaints about mechanics and engineers than you will cops.

And that engineer you speak of, do you want him jailed? Ruined? Retrained? Hung?

Engineers rarely kill people under questionable circumstances, so it's not really a direct comparison. The ones that do? Put them on trial.

Well, considering it's a political debate forum, the only other profession you're likely to see frequent discussion about is politicians, and threads where people hate on politicians around here are a dime a dozen.

Ever heard of the Ford Pinto? Yea, some great engineers on that job.

He's biased. He knows.

You forgot used car salesmen, btw.

Re: Why Cops Like Me Are Quiet

Millions of citizens are a testament to that fact. You obey the law, don't antagonize anyone, including cops, and you don't even get noticed, let alone arrested or beat on.
Since Blacks commit the majority of crimes in America and repeat their actions over and over again.....they get noticed.
And when these stupid ****ers get caught....they resist, lie, or run.

You anti-police attitude is so noted, reino.

What right-wing progoganda machine did you get this from? This isn't even close to being true.

Cops get more scrutiny than almost all other professions because no one in this society has more power to make someone's life miserable.

You make your own life.

Re: Why Cops Like Me Are Quiet

Not the point. If a cop decides he doesn't like he can make your life miserable. Not cause you did anything illegal but because he doesn't like you. You're not going to tell me sh!t like that doesn't happen are you?

Nope. But that man you are so worried about, usually needs to look in the mirror and find out why someone doesn't like him.
See, I have been on both sides of that scenario.
