Why are they called Progressives???

I don't see anything progressive about late - term abortion (or any legalized abortion). Abortion is Neanderthal

I don't see anything progressive about the so called progressives.

I call them retro-gressives because... again... see highlighted
 

Why is it that you cannot have a rational disccion of abortion? Late-term abortion is only in the case of the life or well being of the mother is threatened by continuing the pregnancy to term or when the fetus is not viable. Elective abortion usually ends at 22 to 24 weeks when the fetus becomes viable outside of the body without heroic measures.

Because they see themselves "progressing" towards a more just and equitable society ostensibly based on new discoveries in technology and physical and social sciences to improve the human condition, while simultaneously growing the power of the state to help undo the variegated injustices and archaic norms that they believe are holding us back from advancing to the City on a Hill.

They used to call themselves liberals, but that became a dirty word thanks to Rush Limbaugh so they changed it to progressive. Somehow, they think the label is more important than the substance.

For me being progressive is mostly about knowledge (education, research, solutions), human rights, justice, safety, equality and motivation to make our country better (improve: recycling, infrastructure, public transportation, so on). For me extreme financial individualism is lack of doing your part for society (like not paying enough tax as rich). As progressive I'm asking what's good for majority of us (not just for the rich folks) and how we can take care of people without "common tools" for typical living (children, handicapped, old, mental cases).

Here we should adjust our education goals and produce more people for coding/programming jobs. Education system is also in need of "wake up call" as we're not at top anymore, going to wrong direction is bad sign - so we better take our PISA results seriously and find out what's wrong.

Government size should be just what's needed to, same with regulations (take out what's not good and make what's needed). About that abortion, it's always related to religion if you even mind to talk about it. In nature things just are and you can't calculate any values or meanings from it (whatever it is). So by making that point you also draw God in that chat. You better find way to defend your claims with bible or with some other religious way. Still it's 'zero content' for those who's not believing God.

Liberal is a more blanket term that includes progressives. Not all liberals are progressive (e.g. Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton) but all progressives are liberal. None of it has anything to do with Rush, though he would like to think that.

No one grows the government faster than conservatives in power. The current administration is a great example, growing the government and transferring power to one branch of that government.

I remember the good old days of Air America, when they tried and succeeded in changing it from liberal to progressive...and they succeeded. That was in the Rush heyday...when Rush drove Air America off the air.

It's not a DNC platform item, some dems support it, many don't. I don't. But, legalized abortion is a progressive idea, as it conforms to ideas of granting a woman total control over her body, a liberal idea, compared to the rigid conservative attitudes of the past.

Conservatives have supported forcing women to undergo vaginal probes, against their will, without medical necessity.

I hate to disabuse you of your lack of knowledge, but the term actually goes back to the late 19th century. In a nutshell, progressivism meant social reform, social justice, civil rights, women's suffrage, worker's rights and benefits, and so forth. Since these issues are closer to what the left is about, they adopted it.


The right has tried to make liberal a dirty word, but it's not a dirty word to liberals. We wear that badge with pride.
 


I used to be a republican, but after listening to so many republicans make moronic statements similar to what you just expressed, I took stock of myself, and realized, no, this is not me, I'm not stupid, and stupid seems to be the core of republicanism.

I joined the democratic party, and never looked back. Sure, we got problems, and we're working on them, but I'm dem to the core. Repubs just say stupid **** all the time.

I can't be in that camp, and i wonder why I ever was.
 

What is rational about any abortion for the purpose of self-indulgence and self-gratification? We know that Progressives (Marxists is the better and more accurate term) believe in abortion at any stage including live birth abortions. I view them as sociopaths who probably enjoy castrating kittens.

No, Air America failed due to ratings, they didn't understand that when it comes to radio, liberals prefer music. FM, XM over AM punditry. Limbaugh didn't do squat.


Where liberals are strong are in print journalism (paper but internet these days), and TV ( i know, Fox boasts it' the biggest, but not if you include MSNBC, CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC, and CNBC where you will find liberals frequenting ).


Sorry, we are stronger as a group than the right, and more people vote for dems than they do for repubs, overall.
 

Let's see, what are Democrats working on:
1. A coup against a sitting President who was voted in according to the Constitution
2. The justification and self-indulgence of killing the unborn
3. Stealing Medicare from Seniors
4. Marxism starting with Socialism
5. Destroying Separation of Powers
6. High regulations and High taxes
7. Stealing wealth and property

I could go on but you get the idea. Going to the Democrats destroys liberty, freedom and the right to life or property ownership
