To me, it was Rand Paul, by virtue of the fact that he refuses to be cowed by the terrorists into giving up our liberties. Once we do that, he says, the terrorists have won. He is right.

What say you?

I dont even know anymore. This is a ****ing joke.

I don't think the candidates on the GOP debate were trying to appeal to people who call themselves Socialists. So my question is: so what ?

I think this debate highlighted the Republicans who are in the dark about foreign policy and those that have it right.

What did people think of Christie today? Has he always been so gung ho?

He came across to me as such a warhawk talking about shooting down Russian fighters over other countries and taking the offensive on China digitally?

Christie did well. Kasich did well. Rubio did okay. IMHO

Paul made some great 4th Amendment points, but he's too much of an isolationist for me.

I said this in the other thread, that Christie seemed to be trying to be a smarter version of Trump.

I won't laugh at you picking Paul, promise...

Sorry, could not help it. I think Rubio and Cruz had the best debate.

The big winner tonight was definitely Trump. Trump did what he needed to do and what he does best. The biggest losers (beside Jeb, who did himself no favors tonight by being his usual dull self) was Rubio and Cruz, who both came across very catty and petty. Neither made themselves look Presidential. The one thing that we clear in tonights debate though is the race is going to be about those three. Nobody else did enough to raise theselves up. The race is going to be about whether anyone can take down Trump...and if someone can, is it going to be Mr. Green Eggs and Ham or Rubio?

I would strongly disagree.

Kashich admitted he wanted to invade Syria and kill Bashar al-Assad.

Christie wants to start a war with Russia (although Hillary Clinton has the same position)

Marco Rubio failed. Ted Cruz beat him soundly on EVERY issue - immigration, US Freedom Act

The best "Debate" or the best bickering contest? I don't think either one of them came across very well in their tit for tat back and forth. Neither sounded like they were very secure in what they were talking about.

I strongly disagree. Those who are Cruz supporters probably bought into his rhetoric...but I think if he is trying to expand his base (which of course he is trying to do)...his performance tonight is likely to alienate many of those voters. He did himself no favor tonight.

Man, I always try to give 'likes' for taking the effort to start a thread - but I wouldn't be able to take the embarrassment of someone thinking I agree with you!

Really? I saw both of them (Cruz/Rubio that is) as coming off fairly authoritative. The fact that they were pitted against each other helped neither but I feel that in these debates having more talking time than other candidates is always a boon.

I don't think any candidate benefits from not being on the screen, and with regards to Trump, if he's not being completely outrageous then there's very little substance for him and thus little screentime. When asked his opinion on Triad etc he clearly had no idea what he was talking about, unlike Rubio who went ahead and explained it to the audience.

That's part of what happens at a debate site - we don't always agree. And, that's okay.

Kashich admitted he wanted to invade Syria and kill Bashar al-Assad.
That I don't agree with him on, that much.

Christie wants to start a war with Russia (although Hillary Clinton has the same position)
He said he would enforce a No-Fly Zone, which is something that should have been put in place years ago when the Syrian war began.

Marco Rubio failed. Ted Cruz beat him soundly on EVERY issue - immigration, US Freedom Act
I just can't make myself even contemplate voting for Cruz. Sorry. Rubio's position on immigration is closer to a realistic answer than what most of the other candidates in the GOP have put forward, including Cruz.

Damn it Chomsky, now I gotta go pee, I'm laughing so hard.

Rubios problem is that he is forever tied with Chuck Schumer in supporting amnesty to illegal immigrants. This is a fact.

Rubio showed toughness however he couldn't hold the mustard. Rand Paul even beat him.

I guess I disagree. I didn't see "Authoritative". To me...they came across as trying to outdo each other and neither of them seemed particularly committed to the position they were arguing. They seemed more interested in attacking the other one without having any real ideas of their own. For candidates that are trying to make a name for themselves at this stage in the game, I don't think tonight did either any favors. On the other hand, Trump did just enough to continue his appeal. In fact....compared to Cruz and Rubio tonight....Trump almost looked like the reasonable one.

I don't think immigration alone is going to take Rubio down. Obviously for many GOP voters, it is an albatross around his neck...but for most it isn't a game ender.

Rand Paul, Christie, and Bush came off the best IMO.

I keep hoping each of these debates exposes Trump. Rand's points about the Geneva convention are correct, Trump is not a serious candidate. His idea on closing the internet is just comical in its idiocy. who supports the guy really?

I wasnt even trying to "appeal to me".... I was just talking about factual information....

If there weren't disagreements between the candidates then it wouldn't have been called a debate. I think that both handled themselves fairly well and showed that they were capable of defending their positions in the face of disagreement, which is a quality that a POTUS needs. I don't think that Trump displayed that quality today at all (or really, in the past).

What does seem to be the case is that there's no clear consensus on here, or in the media, on the winners and losers in this one.

Christie wants a no fly zone! That's war with Russia. The UN declined to deliver an authorization for the use of force in Syria, as such with the exception of Russia who has been invited in, all participants in the war against Assad are belligerents.
