Trump couldn't even stay on his own subjects. He was verbally flailing.

"foreign companies are rejibggerint our companies for oil." Um, ok.

He actually played straight authoritarian: I will have my opponent prosecuted if I win. ("Special Prosecutor" just for Hillary).

He whined the whole time, too. He'd constantly interrupt (especially in the middle half), then act like the victim. Of course, when you're lying, you can play victim when called on it.

Hillary: Do not say "celebrate our diversity". Just stop.

Trump on trade: "We're going to have plans so good because we'll have great competition." He said that.

Pretty much everything bad in the last 30 years is Clinton's fault, no matter what office she had.

Notes:

* Mods: steer back to subject, don't argue too hard.

* the "Question" should always be quoted in full. Ditto time allocated vs. used. Tallies should be put up at the end noting who used more time, who went over more frequently, who interrupted more, etc.

Clinton also got too sappy on various subjects.

It wasn't a clobbering, but Donald clearly won this one. Hillary's cheeks are going to hurt in the morning from all the lip-pursing.

Suppress that anger, Hillary, suppress!

Clinton instantly made it personal

As has been asked of me elsewhere, how else could it be in a 1 v 1 contest set up to determine which person will be a better President?

And ought we ignore Trump's persistent personal attacks on Clinton? Should they just not have had happened once Clinton started speaking?

Trump needed to appear contrite and ask for forgiveness and he failed to do that. So he lost the biggest challenge of the night.

On the other hand, he carried much of the first hour and was far better than the first debate performance. Clinton took the third half hour.

Body language means so much and Trump pacing around and hulking over her was not a pleasant site as it made him look both nervous and angry.

Clinton smiled too much and was far too restrained on the attack on her husband and her role in it.

I would call it even and I do not think it changed any votes.

Forgiveness for what? A few words that weren't supposed to be made public? Please..

I forced myself to watch the entire thing, but I was disgusted within minutes and embarrassed for our nation. Clinton instantly made it personal, and I was appalled by the ad homs of both of them. Hated her smirking and his eye-rolling. Hated his interrupting and told him to just shut up several times.

Arrrrgh. So it's come to this, the Jerry Springer show.

That's about as apt a description of what we saw as I think we'll hear from any of the "experts" tonight.

that's true and the question about the "Deplorables" is as tough on her as the 47% bit was on Romney and her comments were actually hateful while Romney's was matter of fact

Romney's wasn't factual at all. He was pandering.

I ****ing hate how much about style these things are. Trump kept Clinton off balance a good chunk of the time in precisely the way that Kent Hovind kept Bill Nye off balance: through a sheer tidal wave of misdirection, lies and exaggeration. Clinton had a few whoppers and made me snort out loud, but Trump probably changed debates forever tonight: **** the truth. Screw the truth, rape it, stab it, then rape the truth's family, rape the truth's family's friends and rape the truth's family's mailman's dog. This debate gave me a headache, but if any good can be said to come of it, the good people at Politifact will be gainfully employed for the next month off tonight's performance alone.

I am disappointed by tonight's presidential debate. I tuned in to see if Trump would grab a moderator by the *****. He didn't. All talk and no action. LOL.

Glad to see that sort of attitude and I am sure Trump is also. It will cost you the election.

Trump got clobbered badly in the first 10 minutes, but after that he did quite well, and was able to deliver some big shots to Hillary.

His biggest gaffe, though, was "I know nothing about Russia". That one will be taken out of context by the Clinton campaign and used in political ads.

This one is a draw, but Trump's improvement from the first debate makes him a winner in my book. I still think his candidacy is toast, but he redeemed himself tonight.

so basically the bar for Trump is set so low, that even though he sucked, he's the winner because he sucked less than last time?

To put it in football terms

Clinton 17
Trump 10

1st half
Clinton 14
Trump 3
2nd half
Clinton 3
Trump 7

Not a spanking but a clear win IMO.
Trump is severely unraveled.

Romney's wasn't factual at all. He was pandering.

actually if you look at the tax issues he was somewhat truthful.

The American people lost. Why is that not a poll option?

Clinton didn't do great with the emails, and did not go heavily on the offense. I suspect part of that is her being cautious, and that a town hall is not usually optimal for all-out attacks. Plus, 2 minutes is not enough time to deal with a real live Gish Gallop.

Trump benefits from low expectations; i.e. he did not completely lose his mind, therefore by some people's standards he did well. However, he definitely lost on style points. His body language was awful, the sniffling was awful, feuding with the moderators plays with his supporters but no one else.

This is probably good enough performance from Trump to temporarily halt the defections... until he inflicts another wound on himself. Otherwise, I don't really think anybody really won.

Oh the Drama! You guys are why shows like Jerry Springer became a thing.

Trump likely stopped the hemorrhaging, and shored-up his base support while pacifying the "dump trump" GOP faction.

So he survives to continue the fight. I suspect the polls will stabilize, and may even rebound slightly by the end of the week.

Forgiveness for what? A few words that weren't supposed to be made public? Please..

Trump already apologized. Trumps a good man. These Hilary fanatics are too much.

It amazes me to see a Hillary Clinton supporter chastise anyone else for lying.

Look in the mirror. Hillary is the worst of the worst. She should be arrested and executed.

do you listen to a lot of AM radio?

so basically the bar for Trump is set so low, that even though he sucked, he's the winner because he sucked less than last time?

Nah......Trump didn't win, but because he didn't embarrass himself he probably gained a tie.
And yes, the bar is set really low for the Donald.

Not a fan having only seen it very few times for only minutes. But maybe you can loan me some of your complete Springer collection or at least your 100 favorite episodes if you want to discuss its virtues?

Why do you need to watch the show when you entire political platform is built on the same model?

You gonna be alright? Relax. Trump isn't going to be president.
