Beyond the issue of the economy lies the two big issues of abortion and guns. The question is, who in 2024 will in on those two issues. The GOP continues to push restrictions on abortions and loosening the restrictions on GUns. The Dems continue to push loosening the restrictions or fighting the GO on the issue of abortions and continue to make it hader to get certain guns and other gun restirctions. So who do you think will win in 2024 on these two issues when it come to a general elecction?

Democrats are already on majority side of opinion on abortion and gun control, so logically speaking they should win.

Realistically speaking the electoral college, gerrymandering and the conservative-dominated Supreme Court makes it very difficult for the majority to win.

Guns? I don't think guns will decide the election. There aren't enough grab-the-guns Democrats for it to be a compelling campaign issue. There are plenty of gun owners on the left who don't actually want to get rid of the guns, just certain ones. More gun owners need to lose their own children, I guess. This is America after all.

America doesn't fix things until they are completely and unutterably broken, and even then the fix is usually a bandaid on a bandaid.

Sure, you can argue that we need to try something. We do. The trouble is I think voters know deep down that with SCOTUS like it is and the 2nd in place, they can perhaps make a dent but they can't fix. And in any event politicians focus on the name they give a type of weapon, not something meaningful like the degree to which it is and is not designed/suited for a self-defense vs. offensive purpose. How many define "assault weapon"?

If anything they invoke the last federal ban, but the last federal ban was stupidly designed. Semi-auto with a grenade launcher? PERFECTLY FINE. Semi-auto with a collapsing stock and pistol grip? ASSAULT WEAPON. Wut?

I'd rather they not make guns a major campaign issue. Run on other things, do what they can once in power, but do it intelligently.

Abortion? Too narrow. They're coming for contraception. They're coming for books that teach that everyone is equal; that the lowest white man isn't better than the beset black man but is only just as good as the lowest black gay etc etc etc person. For the existence of secular public education. For the end of separation of church and state hamfistedly repackaged as "religious freedom".

They're coming for all of us and we need to do more than speaking up... now there's a campaign issue that really does capture Trumpism vs. America, which is what 2024 is looking like it's about.

Nobody.

With the calendar turning over to 2023, the U.S. is less than two years away from the 2024 election that will decide who the next president will be. Here’s a look at what some of the most important global issues are for voters.

What Happened: In 2024, voters will head to the polls to decide who will be the next president of the U.S. The potential candidates could include former president Donald Trump, current president Joe Biden and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Of the three, only Trump has formally announced he is running for president in 2024.

While many voters will pick a candidate based on their party of choice, either Republican or Democrat, some voters may choose to pick a president based on important issues and where candidates stand.

With a portion of the U.S. voting population identifying as moderate and others not identifying with either major political party, major issues could be a big deciding factor in who wins the 2024 presidential election.

Benzinga conducted a poll to find out what the most important issues are currently for voters ahead of the 2024 election.
Here are the results when asked, “What are the most important issues for you when deciding who to vote for?”

Economy: 66.5%
Inflation: 60.6%
Global Issues: 28.1%
Other: 19.0%
Abortion: 5.8%

We might have to do something about shit like this first.

I too used to think that gun owners needed to lose their own family in order for the problem to "come home" to them. The reason for this thinking was in observing how conservatives would frequently realize that gays were normal humans when they learned a family member was gay, so I assumed this behavior would extend to other subjects. However, I don't think this applies, because the gun culture among conservatives is much more pathological than basic homophobia.

There's a motive that's far more powerful underlying their idolization of guns. Possibly an expression of Christo-fascist power, or that guns are props in a post-apocalyptic fantasy, or hero fantasy syndrome. Something that's so powerful that it would allow them to regularly shrug at the deaths of children regularly.

Nobody.

Cope. GOP got blown out in the midterms because their culture war politics are repugnant to the average voter. Since then they've only quadrupled down.

The Democrats could run Hillary in 2024 and still have a decent shot at winning. That's how badly the GOP have messed up.

I doubt either issue will be won or settled the biggest factor driving the win will be the economy and who's liked the most and trusted the most . Trump didn't loose to joe because of the issues but because he was disliked and the media supported the dislike and covid and blm in my opinion

Jan 6, 2021 did very little to appeal to Indies. In fact it turned them against Trump, no help needed from media.

The GOP is certainly expending a lot of effort on those two issues. What are they doing to address the top three issues?

The largest voting block in our nation is Women.

Women are the majority.

Women are now having to face the reality that in some states, pregnancy being a life and death situation is very real.

Women have been facing seeing their babies being blown to bits by assault guns for years. Women have had to take care of and calm children who are afraid to go to school.

The second largest voting block in our nation is young people.

They have had to grow up with drills to learn how to survive a mass shooting. They have had to grow up seeing their friends and teachers being blown to bits by an assault gun. They have had to grow up being afraid to go to school.

As for abortion, the young people are the ones who are being tortured by the abortion bans. They are the ones who are now realizing that getting pregnant is now like going to school, a life and death situation.

I don't make predictions.

I look at the facts.

We will have to wait until 2024 to learn the answer to your question.

Nothing they can do at this time.

It's not that complicated.

At least when it comes to male gun nuts.

Over compensating for a small penis.

The GOP is waging War Against Women.

This stance will seriously hurt them on the Federal, State, and Local levels in 2024.

We've seen hints of this now in the Red states of Kansas and Wisconsin.

Too busy trying to find dirt to do the country’s business.
No. There is literally nothing they can do about the economy...so they have nothing else to do but target the corruption in the government.

Correction. There is one thing the House GOP can do about the economy...they can stop out of control spending. That, at least, will do a small part in not making it worse.

At the state level, abortion and guns are all the rage. GOP is trying to do away with one and do away with any restrictions on the other.

Let's talk about practicality. Strict gun control measures won't stop criminals from getting guns. They'll find a way, no matter what regulations are in place. It's law-abiding citizens who will be left defenseless, unable to protect themselves and their loved ones. It's a classic case of punishing the innocent for the crimes of the guilty.

Nothing to do with the discussion.

DSepends on which librul weighted and biased opinion poll you read.

the electoral college is right and necessary. You libruls absolutely loved gerrymandering when the democrats held the gerrymandering advantange for nearly seven decades. As for the US Supreme Court, majorties go back and forth overtime. I'm sure you were delighted when it was majority librul.

If you have a poll that shows differently then you're free to share with the class.

I don't take any opinion poll all that seriously. With few exceptions, they are all designed as "push polls". That's why both parties do their own internal polling during political campaigns in order to try to find out what's really going on. The published polls are weighted and biased.
