Who knew that it was going to be Republican leaders who would put the nails in the ex-president's political coffin?

McConnell was the signal.

"There are a lot of people in the state party who — they don’t like Donald Trump. They never liked him," he explained."

"As a result, Trump and his endorsees now find themselves fighting against some elected GOP leaders, donors and party officers intent on navigating the party slowly away from him and his false election claims. Among voters, polls have shown Republican-leaning independents turning from Trump,"

"...Art Pope, a prominent North Carolina donor who supported the former president through this four years admitting, "My preference would be he not run again for a variety of reasons and let there be a good primary going forward."

The Republican party is in danger of losing support of big business because of disruptive Trump populism.

Big deal.

It is too little too late. The damage from the GOP's cowardice has been done, and it will take decades to correct, if ever.....

I don't like trump neither, but the reality is, if he runs he has enough support to win the nomination in a divided field of 3 or 4 strong candidates.

If he wins the nomination, he will be supported by the rest.

I pity anyone who is trying to retool the Republican Party into a conservative party again.
They're not only going to have their hands full, their hands will be cut off Saudi style by radical armed extremists who will not accept the notion of defeat even by
their fellow party members.
They've already set their sights on full scale civil war and it looks like they're willing to attack their own people if need be.

They're even willing to kill the economic recovery.

Question: do we want the support of big business?

Trump is the GOP. Neocons need to BTFO!

Big business and the establishment won't support him. They will support a moderate Democrat instead. Why do you think the most moderate Democrat, Biden, won the nomination last time.

I'll believe it when it actually happens.

Are you a Republican?
im an independent, i think both parties suck, but i think being known as the "party of big business" really brings the gop down. The elites are the problem, not the solution, and I'm happy there is many on the right that want to alienate and push out the big, corrupt money so that we can have real leadership

Who'd you vote for in the last 3 presidential elections?

He can still get the nomination I think easily. Winning it all is another story.

to be honest, DeSantis is the much stronger candidate.

Dem leadership is probably hoping for a damaged ex-president instead of a popular DeSantis.

I agree. But I doubt he could beat trump in a divided field.

Oh hooray, they need to be taken out of the limelight for a while.

Look how Trump savaged his opponents in the 2016 Republican primaries. Could DeSantis recover from that, gain back die hard Trump supporters, and win the general election?

He could not even beat Trump in the primary.

What has Trump done to upset corporate America?

I'm not worried about him running, I'm not worried about him winning, I'm not worried about Republicans overturning. I'm doing all I can and don't believe he has power.

Nor am I worried.

I vote for Trump in 2020, and none in any presidential election before then.

all my ballots are split ticket. I never vote straight for 1 party. generally, if i get to an office that i don't know anything about, and i've filled out so many R's on others, i'll just vote D for that office to even it out.(and vice versa).

I generally think of straight ticket voters as tools....like really, you get a long ballot....sit down and take your time. No office can afford to be filled with incompetence. Think of it as an open book test. If you don't know the candidate, look them up. We all have cell phones(please ask a poll worker if you're allowed to use them if voting in person).

Much too early to predict, with any certainty, that Trump will retain enough support to receive the GOP nomination.

If he does manage to hold onto his base, I’ve no doubt that your prediction of him being the GOP nominee will come to fruition.

Beyond garnering the GOP’s nomination, I doubt, but won’t rule out, Loser #45 would not be re-elected.

Two things have changed, one is that the GOP has been seeing polls for 6 months where there are more people who identified themselves as independent than those who self identified as republican.
The other change is still conjecture, but it may be that Mitch and the hill gang have gotten the inside word that some indictments are coming up for the orange.
