I won't use the word "hate". I am sure some on here "hate" rap.

In every genre, there are a few good songs that catch the ear even if you are personally against THAT genre, even rap or opera or .............. country.

BUT............. as a general rule, country music sucks. Now, southern rock, southern blues, even cross overs like country blues, I can really enjoy. But that twangy sound of country music, ugh!

Am I the only one who feels this way?

Me. 99.9% of country music can be summed up as:

I lost my dog. She took my truck. I have the bills. ‘Merica.

And don’t get me started on the women’s side. It’s just narration for stalking.

I grew up hating it. I think that was in response to hearing pop-country every morning on the school bus for years. Years later, when I had been exposed to various forms, I became more open to the genre. I became a big fan of Marty Robins and similar folk country ballads, cowboy country like Riders in the Sky (the band, and the song), and that openness led to later integration of a few pop couuntry songs, of which my favorite at the moment is probably "I gotta go" by Robert Earl Keen.

On my overall music taste playlist though, country is still an underrepretsented genre, below classical, above jazz/big band.

Speaking of that, that reminds me of the bus again, and a song I heard over and over and over and never want to hear again and am going to post but not listen to.

Hate is a strong word, it's just generally not my thing. There are always exceptions - a lot of the music made before, say, 1995 is good. Bluegrass and "dark" country also.

Bluegrass is country made even more unlistenable. Just sayin' ;)

I can't say I like all country music but give me a good beat and/or some good lyrics and I'm with it. There are some amazing country singers.

Putting this out here because it's the last country song I listened to.

I don't go out of my way to listen to country, but I usually don't mind it if I stumble across it. I occasionally enjoy some of the music videos on CMT as I'm scrolling through channels on TV.

But here is one of my favorites- I do go out of my way to listen to this once in a while. A classic: both good music, and some words of wisdom to keep in mind as you go through life:

"Country" in the days of Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, and earlier was alright. Modern country is just pop music in cowboy hats and boots.

This is evil.

Captain Piccard needs to taken out and........(any further would violate the rules)

I hated Star Trek

I hate Piccard and his fake snobby accent, I hate Data and his stupid fake way of talking

And I hate country music. Or what plays as "country and western" now.

As a kid growing up in Ontario it was all 'western' influenced rock starting with Rick Danko, Robbie Robertson (of the Onandaga nation) etc. But today. Twang is the thang and it just makes me want to chew tobacco and shoot a helpless animal.

It puts the lotion in the basket or else it gets Clint Black again.
I don't remember even knowing who sang it or what the title was. I just googled "old country song about taillights", listened to the first 5 seconds, and was like yup. It was burned so deeply into my memory, while staring out the foggy window in the dark at taillights and headlights.

It's when the lyrics dwell incessantly on country (meaning nation), pick ups, beer, or the like that it gets tedious. This is a parody but it illustrates it well:
