sadly, the entirety of the GOP is backing Trump, of course, so there's virtually no hope for Weld. I'm not conservative in the least, but I'd vote for Weld over all the Dems other than Bernie. His record is outstanding, from everything I've seen.

Well the days of "Conscience of a Conservative" are long gone, along with one of my favs, William F. Buckley Jr. Even Krauthammer has left us, far too soon I might add; I really liked him.

I'm a socially conservative Catholic in my private life, but as you probably see in many of my posts - I'm fairly liberal in my public politics. But I always had great respect for principled conservatives, believing we essentially wanted the same things, but sometimes had different ideas on how to get them.

Consequently today I find it easier to relate to principled and classical conservatives, than to relate to Trump or the Republican policy. All I see from Trump is an egotistical authoritarian power grab, though he is willing to push some conservative policies and (of course) judges to remain in power. That's my take on him, anyway.

It is apparent that Barr is going after the FBI and Hillary Clinton on orders from Trump. My question is who is next on the agenda for Barr on orders from trump? Will Barr investigate anyone running against Trump in the 2020 election, like many of the Dem candidates? I mean if Barr is so willing to go after anyone trump wants to hurt, why not other candidates? This is what is wrong when a supposedly independent position in our government becomes a weapon of someone who is willing to use his position as president to not only have an enemies list, but to go after those on the list. And we all know that the GOP leaders are too frightened of trump and his supporters to do anything to stop Trump. That has been made crystal clear.

I mourn for the days when that "want the same things, but have different ways to get there" was true, but I fear those days are long gone. Just look at this forum; look at this THREAD and the OP's premise. It scares me and I am fearless.

I do understand your see your point on Trump and power grabs, but I have to point out that he wasn't the one who got elected promising to "fundamentally change America" - a pure power grab if I ever saw one. As is threatening to rule by phone and pen. Also, how does one conduct a power grab by eliminating regulations?

Barr won't be inventing crimes like Democrats tried to do and failed... No, no, no... Barr will be exposing corruption at the highest levels of our government. That these people are Democrats supporters is of no consequence to Barr. It is the chips falling where they should.
