White House Rose Garden Bulldozed as Work Starts Paving It Over

What we don't have is money to pay for the upkeep of millions of illegal immigrants.
I’d rather pay for 100 life saving surgeries for migrants than save a few MAGa bimbos from getting their heels stuck in grass, but maybe that’s just me.

We don’t have the money for food stamps or Medicaid - why do we have the money for Trump’s vanity projects?

Seems like a waste of tax payer money to me 🤷‍♀️
Trump is paying for it himself. There is no tax payer money involved.

Sadly next President may have to raze the entire WH since Trump essentially is making it look like shit, inside and out.
I think the point is Trump plans stay around for a while. He's already told his supporters they won't have to vote again. What do you think that meant?

Oh stop whining. He's not the first President to make changes, you just hate Trump and you can't think of anything else but to complain. So what the Rose garden is changing, they are not eliminating the roses, but repositioning and making it a better space. A ballroom, so what, do you know how many overcrowded events take place at the WH in rooms far too small to handle the crowds. If Obama had done either of these you'd claim it was fantastic. I bet you loved Michelle vegetable garden. The largest one to date, but not the first.
Wait till you see how he wastes 💰 in Noem’s old state at Mt. Rushmore.

We don't have money to pay for these services for people who are not citizens, who are not legally in the country! The current project is covered in the WH maintenance budget. So stop complaining when you haven't bothered to check on the facts.
So where is the DOGE audit of the WH maintenance budget?
If they are really looking for fraud and abuse why look every where?
And I doubt if new construction is covered in the maintenance budget.
Why not admit it, Trump trying to be a despot with a golden palace at tax payers expense.

White House Rose Garden bulldozed as work starts paving it over
Since his return to the White House, Trump has transformed the Oval Office, making some of the most significant changes to the room's appearance in modern presidential history. There have been gold medallions, gold vermeil figurines, gold eagles and gilded Rococo mirrors added.

It has also been reported that Trump wishes to build a ballroom in the White House, similar to the one he has at his Florida estate, Mar-a-Lago.

On Monday of this week, reporters noticed that work had begun in the Rose Garden.

The Associated Press reported that the project will be completed in approximately two months, citing a White House official who was not authorized to comment publicly.

This same official said that employees of the National Park Service, which maintains the White House grounds, had started the work.

Images show the process of paving over the Rose Garden, first with construction crews digging up the grass, then poles and mud in the garden area. The most recent images show the garden covered in what looks to be gravel.

Trump previously said he would pave over the Rose Garden because the grass is always wet, and it's an inconvenience for women in high heels.

The president also recently oversaw the installation of two flagpoles on the front lawns of the White House, both of which measure 30.5 meters (100 feet) in height.

The Rose Garden was established in 1913 by Ellen Wilson, the wife of President Woodrow Wilson. It was later redesigned by President John F. Kennedy to serve as a space for outdoor ceremonies. It has since become a regular venue for various events, including receptions, press briefings, and other occasions.

Trump has no respect for history, as evidenced by his belief that the Declaration of Independence meant the end of the Civil War. Trump is redoing the White House, which belongs to the American people, a residence that presidents live temporary, into the Mar-a-Lago of the North. "Gold medallions, gold vermeil figurines, gold eagles and gilded Rococo mirrors added", and Trump is far from finished. His endeavor is to out-due the presidential residences of other countries. Coming up next will be a grand ballroom. I have to add, I've been in the White House, I did the tour when Reagan was president. It was almost a surreal experience for me, I'm a history lover, so getting up close to paintings on the wall that hung there when Abe Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, and other presidents stood, was just awesome. I absolutely hate what Trump has made of the Oval Office, it looks garish, ostentatious, and vulgar, just like Trump himself.

He intends to stay.

Oh, stop defending. Trump has made a point of wanting to reduce federal spending and budget. Seems President Trump does not lead by example rather work on the principle of do as I say, not as I do. :giggle:

$100 million dollars is the estimate for that tacky project.

I don’t give a shit about this. I’m much more concerned about the fact that Trump might be on the verge of bringing us yet into another war in the Middle East.

I don't like Trump, but I surely liked the Rose garden regardless of whether I liked Trump. And I liked the vegetable garden--took me back to old time America. I'm not understanding why we want crowds in the White House. Please explain.

As I posted in the thread about how trump is the anti-JFK, this is one more destruction of JFK's actions. Here's an AI summary of Jackie Kennedy - who also famously made the White House a sort of museum for American art and history and more attractive - and the garden:

In 1962, Jacqueline Kennedy, with the help of Rachel Lambert "Bunny" Mellon, redesigned the White House Rose Garden. Kennedy's vision was to transform the garden into a more formal, yet inviting space that could be used for both large events and intimate gatherings. The redesigned garden featured a central lawn bordered by flowerbeds filled with roses, crabapple trees, and other seasonal blooms.

Here's a more detailed look at the history:
  • Early History:
The Rose Garden area had previously been used for various garden designs, including a Victorian greenhouse and a colonial-style garden.

  • Kennedy's Vision:
First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, known for her interest in historic preservation and the arts, wanted a garden that reflected both elegance and practicality. She aimed to create a space that could host large events like press conferences and receptions, while also providing a beautiful and peaceful backdrop for the White House.

  • Rachel Lambert Mellon's Collaboration:
Mellon, a renowned horticulturist, was brought in to help realize Kennedy's vision. Mellon's design included a central lawn surrounded by flowerbeds, with plantings of roses, crabapple trees, and other seasonal flowers and shrubs.

  • A Stage for Presidential Events:
The redesigned Rose Garden quickly became a popular venue for presidential events, including press conferences, ceremonies, and even the occasional wedding.

  • Impact and Legacy:
The Rose Garden, as redesigned by Kennedy and Mellon, has remained largely unchanged and continues to be a significant part of the White House landscape. It stands as a testament to Kennedy's commitment to beauty, history, and the arts.

I don’t give a shit about this. I’m much more concerned about the fact that Trump might be on the verge of bringing us yet into another war in the Middle East.

How did trump get the power to do that, what was your role regarding your vote? Would Biden or Harris be starting a war with Iran? Did Obama? Oh wait, he established peace with Iran, which trump reneged on his first term. I do care about the rose garden, but of course the war is more important.

You too should read more.

Look it up. It’s old news, but if it doesn’t exhaust you, try NBC news. Then there’s Newsweek, and quite a few other sources, again, if you care enough to look. I somehow doubt you do.
You made the claim.

While we teeter on the brink of war, Donald Trump is busy installing flag poles and demolishing the Rose garden that has been there since 1913. But what does Trump give a crap about history and tradition? He’s all about gold and grandeur. He’s putting as much thought into the possibility of the United States going to war again as he is his flag poles
