White House: Border Wall Funding Doesn't Have To Be Tied To DACA Bill


Interesting indeed but we knew Trump was not much good at the art of herding republicant congress critters. I suspect that Trump sees congress critters simply as a numbers game and has noticed that the demorats tend to vote together more than the republicants do - especially as of late. Among congress critters, you can make the number 51 with all of the demorats and only a few of the republicants as, if not more, easily than you can make the number 51 using only republicants.

Trump was never conservative, much less a big C type, he was always for lower corporate taxes, "good (illegal?) hombres" and more spending but many imagined him to be conservative simply for choosing to run under the "R" label.
 

Isn't that old news? You are specifically talking about an action he's taken which is the exact right thing to do. Put your club away. He's right on target here.

Indeed. The now-abandoned Freedom Caucus (I suppose now they know how his contractors felt) and Paul Ryan I'd take a thousand times over him.

Because blaming them for his surrender is nonsense.

Democrats were already on board with storm spending. Schumer and Pelosi told him to surrender on the Ceiling and DACA..... and he did.

It does seem weird. The reason most commonly given for capitulation to the democrats(it was not negotiations, he gave them their opening bid) was to punish republicans in congress for thinking they where a coequal branch of government. Does he somehow think pissing them off will make them compliant? Does he think acting erratically will make republicans more confident in him? What did he think to gain from this?

Edit: don't get me wrong, as a democrat, this is pretty awesome. Leverage, disarray amongst our political opponents, and the possibility of 2 more sets of negotiations on debt ceiling before the midterms. Thank you Trump!

Right thing for whom? For democrats like me, you betcha. For his own party, not so much.
 

Simple answers are often correct: he's a news-addicted narcissist who loves reading good coverage about himself, and he's realized that governing as a Democrat will get him more of that. Democrat leadership flattered him by telling him it would make him look Presidential, and so he gave them what they wanted.

He did the exact right thing about disaster funding. That is the ONLY thing that matters.

Please don't tell me if he added funding for the wall into that bill, others wouldn't go absolutely bat**** crazy.

I don't think the wall is a cure-all (I don't even think it's the most important part of the cure), but I'm fine having it, and think it could prove helpful.

Maggie, not only is he doing the exact opposite of what he campaigned on, he's doing the wrong things.

If we wanted to keep Obamacare, keep high taxes, keep unsustainable spending, not secure the border, and put DACA into law, why didn't we just vote for Hillary?

I'm not blaming them I am simply saying that Trump cares mostly about Trump - and right now Trump wants a "legislative victory" so that congress will "force him to" keep the "dreamers" (DACA as law) and, likely their parents too (DAPA as law) so his "good hombres" can (must?) stay. With less need to worry about (thus adequately fund) interior immigration law enforcement he can likely get his wall too.
