No, there really isn't. It is a twisted as saying because you feel bad about someone else's lot in life, you have some personal culpability. I feel bad for little kids at St. Jude's but I didn't cause their cancer. That is empathy, not guilt.

This reminds me of the kid getting caught talking in class rationalizes it by saying others are talking to, as if it makes it okay.

Many slaves were born here. Never saw Africa, much less engaged in slave commerce there.

Blacks kill other Blacks because no one cares. That's been going on for 100s of years. People turn to gangs when the state declines to protect them, which is what we have here.

What has this country done to atone for enslaving Blacks, making them second class citizens through Jim Crow laws and then stripped them of the opportunity to grow wealth through housing policies such as red lining? Should we, as a nation, not atone for those centuries of white privilege?

Often it is more a matter of recognition, understanding the advantages gained by sharing the skin color of privilege. Sometimes those advantages are subtle, like when suspicious eyes do not follow you around the jewelry store. At other times, it is quite overt, like when you see most of the people on your jury are white or everyone you interviewed with for that big job looked much the same as you.

You benefit from it. Through opportunities to build wealth and quality of life through home ownership, by not being looked upon suspiciously by authorities, by having a similialry privileged network of peers who can help you advance in your work. In general, these are options that are open to whites but not to Blacks.
