1. Making mask wearing mandatory for all citizens when out of doors or in a building with others present.
2. Being taken into custody by people wearing military garb without identification and without being told why you are being arrested. Then after being placed in a cell for hours being released again with no explanation.
Just asking?

2 of course.

I don't consider having to wear a mask any more of a Civil liberty violation than having to wear a shirt, in the same situations.

Wearing a mask to stop or limit the spread of a dangerous virus is not a violation of our rights because you dont have the right to infect others. Our individual rights to do as we choose are to be balanced over a social good. As the SCOTUS once stated it, "The constitution is not a suicide pact".

Being picked up by armed men with no ID, and held without charges is a major civil rights violation of the 4th amendment. People should be in the streets over this action.

1. We make people wear pants or they get arrested. We can make them wear masks during a pandemic.

2. They were federal officers arresting people who vandalized federal property. This happens all the time.

People losing jobs are a legitimate reason to bitch. Masks? Not so much. Snowflakes better get over themselves, or we're in it for far longer than we need to be.

This is probably why they are being picked up...because they were in the streets...because they were taking part in protests...because they just might be someone who damaged property, started a fire, beat someone up.

Perhaps if those people stayed OFF the streets, they wouldn't be getting picked up.

Did you ignore the right to protest in the First Amendment or does that only apply to white guys in the TEAparty? If they are committing vandalism they they must be arrested by the identified cops for that, but to pick up people on the streets by unmarked government officials s is something out of the banana republics, totalitarian China, Saudi religious police, and behind the Iron curtain.

A person's right to air grievances without fear of retribution or censorship is fundamental to democracy in the United States.

Free expression of one's beliefs is protected by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which generally protects free speech, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, and freedom of assembly.

Protesting -- the time-honored practice of publicly speaking out against perceived injustices and urging action -- is a form of assembly and thus protected by the Constitution. But while there is a right to peaceful protest in the U.S.

They tend to skip the first amendment to embrace the 2nd amendment in order to squelch the first amendment rights of others.

True, if people would just stop expressing opinions contrary to Trump, we wouldn't have to arrest them.

Actually the video of one I saw picked up was just walking down the street and got hauled off. He was never charged with anything, but was held for several hours and released without ever being told the reason he was picked up or charged, so no, he was not vandalizing property. If he had been he would have been charged. That is all clearly a violation of his civil rights.

So now you think that Americans can not be on the streets o protest peacefully. You sound like a fascist. this is just how it started in germany in the 30's with Hitlers brown shirts.

This is just trump appealing to his base with so called Law and Order. The problem is that the Federal "brown shirts" have been asked to leave by every level of government in Oregon, but Trump wants there there as part of his reelection program. The Feds will not even tell the congressmen from Oregon who those brown shirts are and what their rules are. One shot a protester who was holding up a boom box in the head with one of those so called rubber bullets and now the kid is in the hospital in critical condition after brain surgery.

Funny, that last sentence is almost word for word what the British commanding officer said after the Boston Massacre.

You are aware, aren't you, that "they just might be some one who damaged property, etc." is pretty thin constitutional logic? Brings to mind the Crusader leader, who, when informed that some of the people they were killing were Christians, said "kill them all, God will know His own."

Especially when they express their opinions with violence.

"peacefully"

Right.

"peacefully"

Right.

Have you actually seen the video's of the storm troopers out there in Portland. They are throwing teargas into huge crowds containing up to ten or twelve people. They shot a kid in the head who was holding a boom box above his head. I am sure he was going to use it as a weapon against the storm troopers. By the way, he is in the hospital after brain surgery. When the governor, the mayor and all of the people out there are saying get the storm trooper the hell out of here as they are stirring up trouble after we had calmed it down, it is time for them to leave. this is all about trump trying to show he is for law and order and also to take the heat off of his problem with the covid virus. You know, his total lack of leadership in the real problem in our country that is sicking millions of Americans and killing thousands.

Especially when they express their opinions with violence.

The people weren't picked up doing anything violent. They were swept up a coupke of hours later because they kind of looked like they might have bern at the protest, and they weren't charged. So which part of that do you think is ok?

Seizing people off the streets without a warrant is false arrest, even kidnapping. No charge needs to be filed. The seizure alone is an arrest. It is not illegal to "take part in protests" and it is not probable cause that the seized person "might be someone who damaged property". How absurd can you be?

This kind of "peaceful protesting" has been going on for more than 50 days...straight.
