The US or terrorism?

The US.
1. Becoming a military state
2. Lack of clear democracy and transparancy
3. Democracy turning into authoritarian rule
4. Most power is in the hand of the president and his handpicked Cabinet.
5. US foreign policy
6. The US is responsible for around 500.000-1.5 million deaths in foreign countries the last 20 years.
7. The US is being taken over by interest groups of insane neo-cons.
8. The US dont care about the rest of the world
9. The US ignores rules and organizations they themself created.
10. US international double moral and standards. Create the UN but not obey by it, while demanding others do. Member of the international court on a case to case basis only. Not member of ICC, but runs Guantanamo. Etc etc 1000ds of cases of similar behavious.
11. The US is continuing the arms race
12. The US dont care for the wellbeing of the human race
13. US nationalism

Terrorism.
1. Several small terrorist attacks around the world the last 20 years.
2. WTC attacks, 911 and 90s
3, London and Madrid(wouldnt have happen if not for iraq Iraq)
4. Responsible for around 50.000 deaths the last 20 years.
5. Crazy and irresponsible people with no compehension for anything but their own sick agenda.(like the Neo-cons)
6. Dont care about anything but their own agenda.
Etc.

Terrorism of course. The US isn't doing anything that is "ruining" the world.

If it gets proven that this war in Iraq is indeed increasing the number of terrorists instead of diminishing it then the US will have a hand in diminishing the safety of citizens around the world.

In the end the US isn't a global danger without terrorism. Terrorism is still a global danger without the US.

Wow zebra, perhaps you should tell us what your opinion is because it isn't completely obvious from your (totally objective and fair) framing of the question.

The US certainly has its problems in regards to foreign policy. Could it and should it do better? Of course. But considering the US's economic and cultural domination of virtually the entire world, it is a remarkably benign empire. It could be much, much more malignant and malicious. Be thankful for that, my friend.

Of course the trouble with your question is that even marginally inadequate policies for such a superpower can result in turmoil and loss of life. It's a superpower, the last one and the ill effects of poor policy is felt around the world. It's hard being the last superpower. You are blamed for everything you do. You are blamed for everything you don't do. Everyone expects you to solve their problems and everyone resents your efforts to do so. And at the end of the day, people like you post the entirety of the death toll in our column.

As for the question of danger, well I suppose the USA has the capacity to be dangerous. Anything as powerful as the United States, even in the hands of angels could be dangerous. As for the terrorists, they represent some short term danger. But just as the Soviet Union was doomed because of the stupidity of command economies, the terrorists are doomed because of the stupidity of their ideology. Kids don't want to die in Jihad. They want to listen to our hip-hop and wear our blue jeans and try our drugs. Get laid. And why not? So overall, I will agree, the United States has the potential to be more dangerous. But only because it is so much more powerful.

The USA, like any empire has its share of attrocities under its belt, but also its share of miraculous accomplishments. I know that right now the incompetence and corruption of the current administration has led to fear and generally reflects poorly on the USA. But I tend to think that we are on the upswing out of these years of darkness. Are we on the road to perfection? Maybe not. But we'll be doing better in a few years. Maybe then you'll thank us for what a good job we're doing.

1. Becoming a military state

1. Because we've chosen to defend ourselves from terrorists that declared war not only on us but on the entire western world? Give me a break Neville.

2. Lack of clear democracy and transparancy

2. If this was true Obama and Hillary would not be campaigning.

3. Democracy turning into authoritarian rule

Elections in '08. Dont miss them. Same as above.

4. Most power is in the hand of the president and his handpicked Cabinet.

President has the right to pick out his cabinet. No law broken there.

5. US foreign policy

Cleaning up Europe's colonial mess. ;)

6. The US is responsible for around 500.000-1.5 million deaths in foreign countries the last 20 years.

As opposed to...the millions who would died had we not decided to step in and help the world.

7. The US is being taken over by interest groups of insane neo-cons.

Rofl. Evidence?

8. The US dont care about the rest of the world

And Europe does. Yet we still give more money then you do. Care to debate this issue again?

9. The US ignores rules and organizations they themselves created.

I say we secede the U.N. and see just how long it holds up. Must I remind you that without us. We'd have not a handful of lunatics running their own states but dozens?

10. US international double moral and standards. Create the UN but not obey by it, while demanding others do. Member of the international court on a case to case basis only. Not member of ICC, but runs Guantanamo. Etc etc 1000ds of cases of similar behavious.

As opposed to the dozens of nations who run dozens secret prisons most of us have never heard of? As opposed to the dozens of nations who commit human rights violations on a daily basis? As opposed to the dozens of nations who won't afford their citizens freedom of speech? Give me a ****ing break Neville.

11. The US is continuing the arms race

Evidence? That umbrella in the sky that you'll want to have when Iran decides to send a few nukes over?

12. The US dont care for the wellbeing of the human race

And Europeans don't care about Europeans. Good look with Europistan.

13. US nationalism

Whats so bad about loving the fact that you're an American? Ashamed of being french? Yes? Yes.

Difference is they don't believe in democracy. We do.

Maximus is sad that you've been brought down to the point where you have to compare the U.S. to terrorists. It just shows how weak your arguments have become. How little you have to offer. Shame I was actually starting to like you.

I have decided that this thread is stupid and unworthy of debate. Therefore, I am hijacking it. The topic of this thread is now ice cream.

Personally, I like plain old chocolate the best. Ben & Jerry's is the best brand, although Coldstone is very good too. What do you guys think?
