Also, it wouldn't be very significant if there weren't many "ballistic leads" to begin with. That's missing from the article as well.
Well..then there is also the problem of the validity and reliability of such testing. With other methods of forensics.. bullet striation match, primer matching.. the forensics have been found to be quite unreliable.
Yeah, it's not a TV show. My daughter tells me that even fingerprints aren't the infallible evidence that one might be led to believe. For one thing, it can be very difficult to lift a useable print.
