My kids (7 and 9) have both recently discovered Jesus and Christianity. So, for the believers on the forum, where do I start reading in the bible with them?

'The Gospels' which are the 4 first books of the New Testament is a good place to start

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John maybe starting with John.

With the events of Jesus' life is a good place to start...

Where do I move to after the Gospels? Finish off the New Testament?

If it were up to me, with kids that age, I wouldn't go further into the New Testament than the gospels.
And I wouldn't go into the Old Testament except maybe Ecclesiastes.
If it were up to me. And kids that age.

Revelations. Then you can skip everything else and just leave it at: if you don't obey the 10 Commandments, everything in Revelations will come true!

At what age would you suggest moving beyond The Gospels?

lol Revelations still keeps me up at night, not trying to keep them up too. That's my quiet time.

I suggest letting them decide. Don't try to teach the Bible. My experience- and I'm no christian- everyone comes to the Bible according to their own terms. Any outside influence is irrelevant.

I agree, we read when they want to read and I field questions as best as I can. I am a Christian, but my Bible knowledge is not as good as it once was.

IMO the story of creation followed by the story of Adam and Eve and what led to leaving Eden.

My kids were gifted before your kids' ages with a colorful kid Bible. But they might really enjoy "The Chosen," which really makes the Bible come alive for so many and gives context to the Old Testament. (And the Apostles frequently recite from Torah too, as does Jesus.) Reading is wonderful, but seeing really helps with understanding.

Where I would start with anybody. The gospels. It's the good news. Genesis - numbers, very dry. Once they are captivated by the gospel proceed to Isaiah.

Maybe look into getting them a children's Bible.

Sunday school at a church might be a place to start....
We are active in church. So, they know all about Adam and Eve and the garden of Eden, Moses, all of the main OT stories and of course they know about the birth of Jesus, etc.

Does your church have a Sunday school?

I think of revelation as less literal. Essentially when it's revealed to you is when you die. Maybe that'll help.

If you're interested in horror movies check out the Catholic Bible regarding the Septuagint. Maccabees is an odd book.

I appreciate everyone's insight. I should give more info. We all go to church: Sunday school, Wednesday services, etc. I serve in the choir and my wife helps with the welcome desk in the kid's area. The kids are both new believers and I'm just trying to nurture their growth.
