When will American voters forget about Afghanistan?

Peer into your crystal ball.

Answer:
When the next Democratic governor is charged with inappropriate behavior, then Afghanistan will be forgotten just like

It will take longer than most political blunders because it is an emotional slap in the face to the ridiculous image Americans have of themselves as world dogooders.

Afghanistan is Vietnam 2.0.

And we'll forget about it when we begin Vietnam 3.0.
nah, vietnam was before 24/7 cable news and internet 24/7
when Cuomo was accused of inappropriate behavior, THAT one item dominated the news cycle and internet non stop round the clock, before that ALL anyone talked about was Jan. 6 or George Floyd.
our attention spans have become SO short, that whatever is the new scandal or drama takes over and the last scandal and drama is forgotten.
no one talks about Benghazi any more, even Hunter Biden has been forgotten. guaranteed, if there is another BLM riot, Afghanistan will be forgotten.

I hear you, and sort of agree.

But this, I think, is of a grander scale than all of those combined.

I give it a month before the issue falls off the voter's radar.

Unless--

The Taliban start having mass executions or something else that's highly newsworthy.

I bet 70% of Americans didn't even know we still had troops in Afghanistan.

.

ya coulda fooled me, how many investigations were done on Benghazi? how long was that horse flogged? I doubt this crisis will last as long.

As long as the evacuation does not go absolutely disastrously wrong, and it may, I believe Biden will come-out politically whole or ahead. But that's simply my conjecture. This has the potential to blow-up politically.

I don't think anyone will forget about Afghanistan but I also don't think it will be a big issue in elections. Foreign policy rarely is. This isn't much different that the end of the Vietnam War which also ceased to be an important political issue.

Next month, by then the story will devolve into political ideology. FoxNews to OANN will not stop complaining about it ignoring their own's participation in that multi-presidential debacle. And CNN, ABC, NBC and the like will move onto the next headlines.

What this does is silo the voter.

True with the bolded, but back then everyone read newspapers, and TV was only just catching-on. So, the newspapers were extremely influential.

Now there is a big difference though, and tha'st the videography power we all hold in our hand. That, and real-time or near real-time social media. Those videos are going to be brutal!

When the right wing propaganda machine moves on to the next attack on the Biden Administration

Those right wingers are the only ones paying attention now. Everyone else knows the truth and are glad we are getting out.

Right wing media has to keep throwing the raw meat to that redneck base. Keep them fired up and hating democrats, socialist, minorities, welfare, gay people, illegal immigrants and taxes. Can't stay on one subject too long. Their audience has a short attention span and will get bored.

Most Americans are happy to have Afghanistan in the rearview mirror.

This on-the-fly Dunkirk-withdrawal does tarnish the image of Biden, but it's not a lethal boondoggle IMO.

I think this will captivate America’s attention for roughly 3-4 more months at which time Phase 4 of the MCU should be operating at speed and we won’t need to worry about the Afghans any longer.

Or in Biden's case, citizens.

This will be on the radar for a long time.

MCU? Marvel's Cinematic Universe?

Comment #3 is your answer ;)
The answer really depends on the next few days. Biden has a chance to redeem himself a little, but if a lot of people end up dead this will never go away.

I have posted, as have many others, that every of the last four presidents botched afghanistan, but yeah, Biden owns this and even we liberals have to acknowledge that. Will it be his Waterloo, no, it won't be.
