Two times come to mind: when healthcare was recognized as a priority and expanded (Obamacare), despite terrible gutting of the expansion; and gay marriage, though that came from the Supreme Court.

Under GW Bush.

Medicare Part D, also called the Medicare prescription drug benefit, is an optional United States federal-government program to help Medicare beneficiaries pay for self-administered prescription drugs. Part D was enacted as part of the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003 and went into effect on January 1, 2006.

Every time we forward accessible education, every time we invent something new, every time we help lift someone out of poverty, every time we help people live again after natural disasters abroad when we didn't have to, then our nation is something to be proud of.

Not nearly enough.....

Anyone out there remember when the USA was the undenied WORLD SUPER POWER? ........

look at us now........😥

When has the US government done something to be proud of this century?

Between Jan. 1st, 2001 and...right now.

What did I win?

The election (twice) to its highest office someone who is a member of a historically oppressed minority in that country.

(BTW, name another country that can make that claim. There's aren't many, or possibly any.)

The federal government has had many programs that help the poor and oppressed. Those programs are being shut down right now though.

I'm not talking about 'our nation is something to be proud of' more generally, but specifically, major government actions to be proud of, like 'putting a man on the moon', or 'Social Security', or the examples above.

How many stand out as created or greatly improved this century?

I'll add that as the third. But NPR: "In 2003 George W. Bush set up the global health initiative PEPFAR in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Over the last couple of decades, it's saved millions of lives for relatively little money. But cuts under the Trump administration have gutted the program. An estimated 70,000 people have died already due to the cutbacks"

Any country that has elected a female leader.

In most nations women make up a majority, not a minority. Where they are a minority, it is only by the slightest of margins.

Conversely, Obama represented a historically oppressed minority that only makes up about 13% of the US population, and he was put in office by an electorate that was about 75% white.

I can think of one thing off the top of my head that the US government has done this century that pretty much the entire peace-loving world is thankful for...whether they admit it or not.

"All planes are now outside of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home. Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE! Thank you for your attention to this matter."

No other US President this century had the balls to do such a thing.

Ignored poster # 78 checking in.

Good point. And I actually quite agree on the second point as well - I have said the same. I think one "big mistake" in Europe has been to cling too long to a kind of "noble savage" myth - that "they" are kind of "more innocent and virtuous though less smart or complicated people than "us", which also makes it harder to attain very top positions in a country. Gender issues was already mentioned - I think there US has more to do than Europe.

As for my answers: 1: Roosevelt joining the war to defeat Hitler and saving democracy in Europe in WW2.
2: Clinton stopping the ethnic cleansing and fascism in former Yugoslavia and showing that bullies only respect force. Would be quite a scary scenario what would be today if Clinton had not acted.

Nobody else was stupid enough to try it….and fail, as Trump did.

Don't be ridiculous. Trump didn't fail.
He absolutely did, as the leaked DIA report shows.

I get he’s your Dear Leader and you can’t bear to believe he can fail, but he did….spectacularly.

That report has already been debunked.
