Good point. And I actually quite agree on the second point as well - I have said the same. I think one "big mistake" in Europe has been to cling too long to a kind of "noble savage" myth - that "they" are kind of "more innocent and virtuous though less smart or complicated people than "us", which also makes it harder to attain very top positions in a country. Gender issues was already mentioned - I think there US has more to do than Europe.

First, that's a very questionable claim. Second, no one says all of the US is racist. How many Republicans voted for Obama - and how many supported lies by a con man who lied that Obama was illegitimate, not born in the US, and what did the country do to that con man, who later admitted it was all lies?
