As a reminder, the West Bank is the other of the two primary regions for Palestinians, governed by the Palestinian Authority, which has recognized Israel since about 1993, and are opponents of Hamas, having nothing to do with the Hamas attack. Since the attack, Israel and its settlers have killed over 100 Palestinians in the West Bank, here's one example of what is going on.

O

One of the least reported issues is the fact that the Ultra Orthodox Jews are attempting to expel all non Jews from Israel. This includes Christians and not just Muslims. This is not the policy of the Israeli government nor do most Israeli support it, but the Ultranationalists are a political force to be reckoned with.

Right. In most or every society, there is a spectrum of people. In the US, we have far-right fanatics and Progressives. Israel has its most far-right government in history. The right in Israel has long opposed 'peace', just as the radical Islamists have. They have greatly pressured the government to follow their agenda. Sometimes the government refuses, sometimes they agree.

Some of the settlers are indeed extremists, and are taking this opportunity to create more chaos. They are apparently not part of Israeli military.

That’s another hot button issue with many Israelis.

They're not part of the military, but the military is allowing them to do it and protecting them. In other situations - like the removal of settlements in Gaza - the settlers and IDF have been at odds and fought. But the reporting I see is that they're very much enabling the settle violence.

Can you clarify? The only 'hot button' issue I know of is the history where the very orthodox Jews were exempted from military service; but that has been partially resolved by the creation of one volunteer battalion just for them, which now has over 800 members. Just saw a documentary on it today.

Yes, I've read that.

Most settlers do not rampage through Palestinian towns and villages torching homes and cars, uprooting olive trees, and shooting people.
But some do, and they’ve stepped up their violence against Palestinians since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attacks. On October 11, settlers entered the Palestinian village of Qusra, near Nablus, attacked a home and killed three Palestinians. The next day they attacked the funeral procession, killing two more. In an Oct. 13 video from Al-Tuwani, near Hebron, a settler with a machine gun shoots an unarmed Palestinian standing opposite him while an Israeli soldier looks on. Since Oct. 7, over 550 West Bank Palestinians have left their homes due to settler violence, according to the Israeli human rights group B’Tselem.

To be sure, Palestinian assailants from the West Bank also perpetuate frequent attacks against Jews both in the West Bank and Israel, and fatal attacks by Palestinians are more numerous than fatal attacks by Jewish settlers. But the Israeli Army and police pursue Palestinian assailants in the West Bank and protect the settlers. When settlers attack Palestinians, the Israeli Army usually stands by; protecting Palestinians is not part of its mandate.

I haven't checked the numbers, but will take your word for it. But it needs to be remembered, these settlers are illegally taking Palestinian land, displacing them, they are occupiers; it's not an apples and apples comparison like they are just people living as neighbors.

To be clear, I posted from the article linked.

Wow. What an utterly crappy looking place. This is what they're fighting about? Literally everyone needs to move someplace less utterly craptaculat.

A google search says that in the West Bank, since 2008 there have been 1007 Palestinian casualties and 308 Israeli casualties. This does not include the recent violence.

I guess my source Salon.com is not trustworthy, which casts doubt on the rest of what they wrote. Sad, when trying to learn.

Who knows. Salon usually is; sometimes it's just reporting different parts of the information. It doesn't seem that central to the topic.

It looks like a good article, here's some more quoted:

And they’re getting away with murder, literally, thanks in part to a far-right Israeli government that not only casts a blind eye on settler violence but often encourages it.

Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir on multiple occasions has whipped out his handgun and threatened to shoot Palestinians to show them who’s boss. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, the man in charge of Jewish settlement policy in the West Bank, in March called for “wiping out” the Palestinian city of Huwara following a Palestinian terrorist attack (he later apologized).

Violent Jewish settlers have been attacking Palestinian farms, towns and people for years, but their intensity increased after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu returned to power 10 months ago with the most right-wing government in Israel’s history.

Human rights activist in West Bank seized, tortured, his home seized. He says there is an undeclared war in the west bank against Palestinians.

Can't get much more fitting for the thread than a video titled 'What's happening in the west bank'.

ABC news shows various things about what's happening. One thing is each settler I've seen interview about it says the biblical grant of all the land to Jews is all they care about, not international law. This clip has one of them.

"

In the West Bank, Israeli settlers are on an anti-Palestinian rampage - Since October 7, settler radicals have been attacking Palestinians at an unprecedented rate — uprooting entire communities and threatening a wider war."

There in lies the crux of the problem which for a long time the legacy media has not reported. If there was any mention, there was no deeper digging to make people aware of how dangerous these people are to the stability of the region.
