What would you do if you knew someone who was making death threats?

We constantly hear about people who are involved in politics, either as politicians or part of the election process getting death threats against themselves an/or their family. What would you do if you knew someone who was making such threats. Would you let them know and tell them to stop? If they failed to stop would you report them to authorities? If you failed to do anything and they hurt someone, would you feel in any way responsible? Do you think it is okay to threaten someone if they fail to do as you or your party wish?

That depends on whether the threat was made as an announcement or in the course of ****ing around during conversation. An announcement is much more alarming, whereas if somebody is brought up in discussion and my friend says, "Man I hate that guy, I'm gonna kill him," I'm going to take it as blowing off steam.

Obviously this takes into account other factors, such as his history of violence or general stability as a person.

Would you let them know and tell them to stop?

If what he was saying made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck? Absolutely. You've got to listen to that voice in your head that says, "This is off."

If they failed to stop would you report them to authorities?

If he failed to stop, owned guns and showed signs of unstable behavior in other areas of his life, I'd probably have to. But if possible, I'd talk to his family and friends first to assess the bigger picture. If they echoed my concerns, we'd discuss bringing in the authorities, or if some other action could be taken to take away his guns.

And for the record, there've been about two or three times on this forum that I've reported posters who made the hairs stand on the back of my neck, giving my opinion that authorities should be aware of the things these posters were saying.

I have never reported anyone, but I have thought about it a few times. I saw the GOP guy on the January 6th Committee say tonight that he had gotten a death threat that included himself, his wife and his 5 month old baby. That is the kind of threat that someone should report who sent it.

It would depend on who they were threatening.

I'm kidding, of course. No matter who they were threatening I would first tell them to stop and then turn them in if they didn't, that is if it was anything more serious than shooting off at the mouth in a bullshit session.

I don’t know anyone that cares enough about a politician to make any sort of credible threat against them.

I also don’t know anyone violent enough to make any sort of credible threat against another human.

I can’t help but wonder who would associate with those type of persons.

Report them to the appropriate authorities & walk away

If I knew a person who was making death threats, I would report that person to police (no matter how little I like the police, they are still best equipped to handle it).
