What was the title of the first 45 rpm record you bought?

I fortunately am a bit of a hoarder. As people got rid of their records I felt the need to give them new homes. Glad I did.

I don’t think vinyl is that much better today. My 45 year old albums sound great, especially since I upgraded my cartridge. As for prices, I calculated what I am paying for new pressings today versus what I paid back in the day, with inflation factored in, the price is close to the same.

Pro-Ject makes good turntables.
Georgie Girl by the Seekers.

Ok, you found the one song of their's that maybe wasn't the greatest of all time. But how about:

No I found the one LZ song I can almost halfway tolerate. Unlike, um, no offence, that toe-curling clash of rather leaden white reggae and odd screeching, though the suspense of what would be following after each drum fill was mildly suspenseful.

My first 45 rpm (and only, really) was Convoy by C.W. McCall, with Long, Lonesome Road on the B side.

I have a few. One is a 1968 Nixon campaign give away with his nomination acceptance speech. I don’t know where it’s gotten to but I remember he said something like “If a president can’t get us out of Vietnam in one term he should not run again.”

But he ran again anyway. So much for promises.

They really sucked. Most pressings did back then did. I think they reused vinyl.

I'd buy a half speed master and be blown away by what I was missing on a regular lp.

Weren’t they mostly give aways that came in magazines or something?

I didn't buy records for years. My father was good friends with a guy in the record business. My brothers and I got all the 45s we wanted. Hell, we got some we didn't want too.

My early favorite that I played so often I wore the groves off of it was from the Clovers. I liked everything the Clovers did. I still like there songs.

THEY'RE COMING TO TAKE ME AWAY, HA - HAAA! Napoleon XIV 1966 (Jerry Samuels)
The flip side was recorded backwards.
