What Was The Last Movie You Watched and Rate it!

Captive State. Gloomy, depressing, confused, bad plot line, vague ending. Acting was ok.
 
Captain Marvel (2019) - IMDb

Captain Marvel- not a bad origin story, but not exactly great either. I liked it better than Dr. Strange, Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther, but that's not saying much. The plot is all over the place and youve seen it all before. 5/10



The Happy Prince (2018) - IMDb

The Happy Prince- the story of Oscar Wilde's last days in France before he died. The production values are great and the actors are excellent, but the whole movie is pretty depressing. In the end you cant help but sympathize with Wilde- he was a genuine talent, but his ego got the better of him and he should have known better. 7/10



Combat Obscura (2018) - IMDb

Combat Obscura- a searing documentary based on footage filmed by US Marines in Afghanistan. It's along the same lines as Restrepo, and in many ways its more honest. You have young men being placed in impossible situations, trying to win a war that shouldnt even be fought. They try their best, but when one doesnt speak the language or cant tell who the enemy is, then its a surefire recipe for disaster. The best scenes in this is where a squad stumbles upon a forest of pot plants, and they start smoking it. Anyone who is interested in the war on terror ought to see it. 9/10
 
Captain Marvel
Solid 7.5/10

Coulda been more epic. But you can say that about a lot of films. I enjoyed it but it also didn't hold my attention until 3/4 into it.
Could have had better reviews if Larson was better at promoting movies. She still could ruin my image of the film if she makes more mistakes.
 

Triple Frontier (2019) - IMDb Triple Frontier- despite an A-list cast and director, this is just a run of the mill heist movie that goes wrong (dont they all?) about a group of ex-soldiers who decide to raid a drug lord's house in South America to grab millions in cash. 5/10


Stan & Ollie (2018) - IMDb Stan and Ollie-a biopic of Laurel and Hardy's final tour. It's okay, though slow. 5.5/10


House of Games (1987) - IMDb House of Games- David Mamet's first movie hasnt aged well. A story about a writer getting caught up in the schemes of a group of con men now seems fairly predictable to me (I figured out the twist right away), but I guess it was all the rage when it first came out. 6/10

Bad Times at the El Royale (2018) - IMDb Bad Times at the El Royale- a mystery thriller set in a motel with a bunch of characters. Started off well, but then devolved into a predictable and sloppy mess. 5/10

 
Trite, stereotyped, caricaturish, predictable, sentimental, overacted, corny, earnest and one of Anthony Quinn's last great performances. A simply beautiful small movie. I love watching it again and again on cable, dvd, and give copies of the dvd as gifts. No recipient complains.

 
THE HIGHWAYMEN (NetFlix) - A great movie. Kevin Costner is spectacular, as is Woody Harrelson. It is the way the Bonnie and Clyde story should have always been told.
 
Four out of ten stars for BLACKKKLANSMAN.

Thin characters, hate-filled ideology in place of plot, and mediocre performances-- hey, given current trends, it really should've won the Oscar!

Not to mention the ending where they decide to introduce real life footage of an entirely different event than the one depicted in the film and also finding space to equate the POTUS to the KKK and turning the US flag upside-down. Completely disgusting. Worst of all, using the death of a young woman to push a malevolent ideology.

I did not like it all and would rate it even lower than you. Perhaps a 2,5.

The last film I watched was Heavy Trip. It was OK and had its funny moment here and there; 5/10.
 

The Highwaymen (2019) - IMDb Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson as Texas Rangers in the true life manhunt of Bonnie and Clyde. Fairly entertaining and well made, though the movie really portrayed Bonnie as a killer, and the many accounts contradict this- its possible she might have never killed anybody. 7/10


The Mule (2018) - IMDb Clint Eastwood as a good for nothing retiree who ends up being a runner for a Mexican drug cartel. Starts off well but then gets real improbable towards the end. OK. 6/10


Vice (2018) - IMDb Christian Bale is very good as Dick Cheney, though the movie tends to go avant garde with weird scenes and over the top message about how evil this man is. I did learn some new things about him that I never knew before- assuming the movie is true, of course. 7.5/10
 
Shazam.. 7/10.. Good kids movie.

Prospect (2018) - IMDb Sci fi movie about a girl and her father mining for what looks like gems inside alien seed pods? Indie movie with a shoestring budget, though it does have some interesting worldbuilding. The problem is there's not much exposition, so its hard to know what's going on. Pedro Pascal turns in a good performance, as usual. 5.5/10


Possum (2018) - IMDb Weird British indie horror movie about a weird man who has a fetish for a monstrous puppet. I figured out the twist early on because of the limited cast, so even though it started off okay, it petered out again. 5/10



Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans (2015) - IMDb Documentary about Steve McQueen and his effort to make a racing movie titled Le Mans. I'm a big fan of his, and it's obvious he had a great vision to make the ultimate racing movie, but it totally bombed in the box office and killed his dream of becoming a completely independent movie producer. McQueen was a perfectionist, and he spared no expense to try and actually race (he finished 2nd place with a broken foot at the warm up race in Florida- an amazing achievement) in order to know how it felt like. The lack of a script doomed the picture from the start, yet its fascinating to watch the whole thing unfold. Includes archival voice interviews with McQueen himself. 8/10
 

I watched Papillon ( the original ) again a few nights ago with McQueen and Hoffman. Amazing account of the Devil's Island nightmare and a fantastic saga of suffering, perseverance, and survival..... 10/10.
 

I had a feeling it was a mistake for the filmmakers to sell the flick as "superheroes meet BIG."
 
I give BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY about six out of ten, but that still puts it ahead of most Oscarbait.
 

Serenity (2019) - IMDb you'd think that Matthew McConaghey always makes good movies, right? Well this one started off kinda okay, but when the twist came it was an absolute bonerhead- like a cheap Twilight Zone episode. I won't spoil it but it kind makes me wonder why he took the role. The whole thing is silly. 1.5/10


You Were Never Really Here (2017) - IMDb Joaquin Phoenix is one of the great character actors around right now. This movie is about a deranged military veteran who does sort of vigilante jobs, though the whole set up and premise sounds too contrived in my opinion. Has got some good scenes, but on the whole I felt it became generic. 5/10


Takaisin pintaan (2016) - IMDb documentary about a group of Finish cave divers. When two of their friends died in an underwater ice cave in Norway, and the police sealed the whole cave off because it was too dangerous to retrieve the bodies, the rest of the group decided to secretly go back and retrieve their friend's remains, despite the possibility that they would either get arrested or even killed trying. The Finns are somewhat dour and calm, but it's a good documentary that shows how deep the bonds of friendship last, even in death. 7.5/10
 
Red Joan.....intriguing truth based spy story, about scientific information given to the Soviet Union during World War II. I'd give it a 7 out of 10.
 
Avengers: Endgame - 9 of 10 stars.

Unfortunately, because of the internet I wasn't as surprised as I would have been but this story was nicely told, although I did get a bit of CGI overdose in the final third of the movie. I've sat through my share of three hour movies but this is one I didn't even want to go to the john for fear of missing something. There were some very touching scenes that wrapped up some minor plot threads that ran through every Avenger movie and almost every other Marvel movie.
 
Tolkein 8 of 10.

Have always been a fan....this was an interesting look at the author.
 

Gold (2016) - IMDb Matthew McConaughey as a gold prospector who seemingly finds that biggest gold mine in Indonesia during the 1980s. Apparently based on a true story. The acting is okay, but the story feels like a rehash of the Wolf of Wall Street, Casino Jack, and a bunch of others. Nothing new. 5.5/10


The Duelist (2016) - IMDb surprisingly well made historical Russian action movie about a suicidal professional duelist in Imperial Russia. Nice break from the usual movies I've seen. 7/10


Dragged Across Concrete (2018) - IMDb A really, really long heist movie (2 and a half hours long) with Mel Gibson as a slightly crooked cop trying to involve himself and his partner in a heist because he needs the money. Did I say this was a long movie? Because it is. Every subplot with even minor characters are shown. The action sequences are good, and this is actually the best movie Mel's done in years (which isnt saying much). But still way too long and overdrawn. 7/10

Adventure, fantasy, comedy, family

A postmaster devises a scheme to deliver messages quicker. . . . For a price, of course.

It has a fantasy "steampunk" vibe to it like in an alternate universe.. . .loosely based on a book by the same name.

Odd and quirky - I loved it. 8/10
 
Rewatched the "Blade" trilogy. I cannot believe that for the many times i've watched these movies, i failed to notice it was from Marvel. How did i miss that?

1 & 2 i'd give a 5/5
3? A 2/5. The acting and plot were fine, but the rough language used was ridiculous and ruined any chance for a 5/5.
 
The Black Godfather
if you are fond of burning crosses, this will not be a flick for you
however, if you want to see a biography about a unique man who touched a lot of people in a positive way, you may well enjoy it, too
 
Watched the Tim Burton movie DUMBO with my granddaughter. Very good - 8 out of 10. Anything directed by Burton is going to be heavy on imagination and creativity and this did not disappoint.

well I did not say they were all good - even the Wonka remake was creative. But your point is taken.
