I would have to say the war, only because it is the most polarizing issue. Immigration is right up there however.

No question the war on terrorism is the biggest challenge this country has ever faced............

Welcome to DP my friend......We can always use another Conservative to fight liberalism...Looking forward to your input.........

I nearly put that option on the poll, but felt that most people would just lump it in with the war in Iraq. Thanks Navy, glad to be here fighting the good fight.

Of the ones you listed, they are ranked as follows:

The war in Iraq
Health care
Immigration
Abortion

There are other important issues too though. My top 4 would be:

The war in Iraq
Energy independence
Free trade
Health care

Partisanship. Resulting in the inability to come to agreements and make decisions.

Impeaching the President and Vice-President
before they start WWIII!

Partisanship, Bigotry, blinded emotional faithful allegiance to ones own party and the inability to comprehend a differing opinion.

The question was what "What is the single biggest issue facing America today?" NOT "What is the single biggest political, foreign policy, or physical threat facing America today"

I got a chuckle out of

Brown being the new Pink

immigration replacing gay marriage

I would put energy independence at the top. Why? Because it influences everything else. Who the hell cares of Iraq or middle east stability if we're independent of the ME from our energy needs? Global warming, conservation terrorism all with the single stone of sustainable energy independence.

I didn't realize there was a war against liberalism - mind you our founding fathers were all liberals.

The biggest problem is the current U.S. government and trying to keep them from starting WWIII before we can boot their asses out of office next year.

I love how you see liberalism as the enemy. I guess you and Osama have something in common after all.

What is the biggest issue facing America today?

hmmmm

...

Ignorance. Most of the other problems start with it.

Wikipedia on education economics said:
If we look at a sorted list of nations with the highest level of secondary schooling we notice these are the richest countries in the world, based on GDP per capita. High rates of education are essential for countries to achieve high levels of economic growth. In theory poor countries should grow faster than rich countries because they can adopt cutting edge technologies already tried and tested by rich countries. But economists argue that if the gap in education between a rich and a poor nation is too large, as is the case between the poorest and the richest nations in the world, the transfer of these technologies that drive economic growth becomes difficult, thus the economies of the world's poorest nations stagnate.

Systematic inequity.

People blaming their plight on inequity instead of taking advantage of the opportunities available in the US. ;)

Systematic inequity.
copout of those doomed to be failures in society
alot of what one needs to suceed is readily available in the library (free)
and the most important part needed is LIFE EXPERIENCE (free)
but if you are just drifting through life, with no effort to improve yourself, you deserve exactly what you get, next to nothing

Dishonesty and corruption by our self seeking (riches) Politicians.

International Terrorism and dependency on foreign energy.

I say international terrorism first because it is the most immediated problem that has to be dealt with now but while we're fighting terrorism we need to be working very hard on achieving full energy independence within the next few decades.

To effectively combat terrorism we need to begin a concerted effort to liberalize the Muslim world, that fight begins in Iraq but does not end there, in order to achieve energy independence we need to greatly expand our nuclear power capablities (France has more reactors than us) we need to expand our refinery capacity, we need to start drilling in the Gulf and Anwr, (the Chinese through Mexico will be tapping our oil because we are to slow to drill in the Gulf) we need to expand thermo, wind, tidal current forms of energy, we need to expand ethanol production but without taking away from our food stocks like corn, and we need to switch to a fuel cell based form of locomotion.

Well Bush invited the terrorist into Iraq with open hands and pop corn and beer. $crew Iraq, leave so we can worry about our borders.
No border security means no one cares.

I have to agree that energy independence is right at the top. The war in Iraq is directly linked to our energy policy. On a longer term, I would also include fiscal irresponsibility towards the top of the list. Eventually our economic irresponsibility including both the national and trade deficits will come back to bite us in the a$$.

Iraq is the center of the Islamic world, it is a key strategic location in which to begin liberalizing the Middle East, that is the only way that we can effectively combat terrorism, Afghanistan is the armpit of the globe and a victory or defeat there won't mean a whole hill of beans to the overall fight against radical Islam.
