In a free society a constitutional right should not even be slightly bruised unless there is clear and convincing proof that any such interference will undoubtedly further a significant public good. Guess what, the anti gun control freaks cannot come close to that.

People I know who are in favor of gun control are assuming it would reduce violent crime.

Studies show it probably wouldn't, but they don't know that.

A very good observation. I think one can draw the conclusion after all this time that whatever firearm owners are trying to sell to the public is a no sale. Is anyone going to argue that point?

More guns less crime
You want safety buy a gun
Come to the range and learn to shoot a gun
Carry a gun
Have a gun
You need a gun
Join a gun club

All they are doing is selling guns and it is not working because guns don't vote, object or complain.

If you want people to support firearm ownership then one has to sell safety not guns. Non firearm owners are not going to be convinced buying a gun will make them safer. What they need to know is how gun control is making them vulnerable. That supporting gun control will reduce their safety.

Every person when asked to do something is always going to ask what's in it for me?

Supporting firearm ownership is no different. Sell safety not guns and how can disarming everyone but criminals and government make anyone safer?

If firearm owners do not take a very large interest in public safety they will lose this fight to gun control as they are currently doing.

They are. There is absolutely no doubt of that as gun controls propaganda instils hatred and fear of guns and gun owners.

Gun control is not about guns or crime it is about CONTROL. Only an indoctrinated person can BELIEVE that gun control can or will make citizens safer. It is beyond belief that anyone can reason that giving criminals victims that come with a government backed guarantee of being unarmed, can make anyone safer.
