One definition is ”a man who cheats or tricks someone by gaining their trust and persuading them to believe something that is not true.”
Another is “a person who uses tricks to cheat people, esp. to get their money or possessions.”
A con man is someone who can speak things that are not true into existence simply by repeating them - often and loudly - and with conviction.
A con man uses fear to help sell their con; like telling their marks they are at risk of losing something, or that they need to give him money in order to keep what they have.
A con man is fundamentally dishonest, and not to be trusted.

Sometimes they are selling junky stuff and pretending it is valuable, like magic books, coins, of gold sneakers. More recently, gaudy watches that were probably made in China.

This is what a con man looks like;

Sometimes they look weird, like unnatural skin color, strange hair, or seem to be losing their chins into what looks like neck scrotum. Like the weird orange guy in the photo.

Sometimes they look more normal.

Always, they are lying in order to achieve some personal gain.

I think his days of conning women are over.

Trump reminds me of nothing more these days than the caricature of a used car salesman interbred with a carnival huckster. And this is the person that the magas want to be our president and hold the nuclear codes. If Americans from 50 years ago could peep into the future and see this they wouldn't believe that it could be possible.

"I have these diamonds I need to sell. We'll get them appraised first. I just need the money. Once in a lifetime deal." (the old switcheroo)

If you want to entertain yourself and see con artists in (fictional) action, watch the film Focus. Great cast, fun movie, Margo Robbie in a bikini alone is worth the price of admission.

Here is a con man with his mouth open. Being loud, as usual. Saying nothing, as usual.
