Looking for a smart phone to take & send photos and send & receive text messages. Consumer Cellular has one.

I bought mine years ago, very inexpensive, very basic. The MOTO E5 Play and my service has been Consumer Cellular.....no complaints. It's usually off, unless I go out somewhere or need to use it for something. I'm not at all attached to my phone, I visit this forum from my desktop or laptop. My particular phone is likely outdated, think it's 4G.

I've had Consumer Cellular for several years now. 25.00 a month. Unlimited everything. I love it. I have an iphone 10, but you can use any phone of get one of theirs. It's a no-brainer unless you just want to pay more!

@rhinefire Don't kid yourself. All 95% of 🇺🇸 Americans only use basic functions.

That said, everyone drops what they are doing to get the latest shinny object less they are behind their friends in status.

I have consumer cellular too! I do DP from my laptop only, don't know how or want to know how to do it from my damn phone. I, like you am not attached to my phone and if I run to the store I probably don't take it with me.

Check out the various Jitterbug phones by Lively.com They worked well for my elderly mother.....
Can you go online with those phones? I don't go online much, but it's handy if you need to.

I bought my mom the Samsung Galaxy J6 almost 2 years ago. She's 78 and she likes it. It's not fancy, doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it does what she wants it to do.

I have a Nokia G10. Real basic smartphone, inexpensive $70, with minimal bells & whistles, and easy to use.

I don't think either of those statements are true.

Lol

What is it you think a young man does with a smart phone that an old man does not?

And what phones markets to the old man?

Not sure why you're loling here. I was responding to the statements you made, and I stand by my post, you don't have to agree, it's really no big deal

From all I've experienced in real life and have heard, I highly doubt that 95% of Americans only use basic functions. It was well over a decade ago where everyone around me was using their phones in other ways than basic functions, which would be making a call, taking a picture or sending a text or email.

Also everyone does not drop what they're doing to get the latest shiny object, I don't, my friends and neighbors don't and the people I come in contact with online or in real life do not.

Not sure what you are saying here. These are all basic functions.

And you are very wrong. People stand in line for the latest shinny object.
Heck, Nike drops a new shoe every month now to take advantage of this.

BTW, this is as old as man himself. I could explain both its evolution and pyscology forces at work here but what's the point?

People.....not everyone as you claimed. Agree to disagree, this is a foolish back and forth over a cell phone. If it makes you feel better to say I'm wrong and you're right, great, have a peaceful sleep.

Well, as usual, I am.

Peace

Problem is there is no "simple smartphone" for seniors. You can get smartphones with an Android UI that makes it easier to use for seniors, but even those get complicated.

Then there is the Apple tax, where the rest of the family have iPhones and it would be easier to get help if the seniors also had it, not to mention green iMessage messages.

You have to define what you need in a phone. Just calling... Get a Nokia phone..they are still built like a truck and cheap. They even have WhatsApp on some of the dumb models.

Need more, like GPS maps, then get either a 160 dollar to 250 dollar android or an Apple iPhone SE. The later is the cheapest iPhone you can get, but most likely overkill.

Many of my friends my age and older prefer the simplicity of a flip phone while I was always on the latest and greatest Samsung. I basically ran my business with my phone away from the house. Invoices & proposals could be printed out in my truck, and I used Square for credit cards.

I downgraded to a Moto G7 power after I slowed my business down because I loved the idea of going 4-5 days before worrying about charging. It's a great phone if you don't mind 720 dpi.

Sadly, people are just adverse to change after a certain age.
Thank God I suffer no such affliction.
Naive response but I will say I would not change many things in my 75 years and as far as the changes I witness I am fine with not changing a thing. I have no plans to buy an electric car and my truck will outlive me. No tattoos and no piercing one wife. Yep, life is just fine with the way I choose to live it.

If it were me I'd get an older model iPhone or Android. Before you buy, see if you can find some good YouTube video tutorials for that specific model (or similar variants) so that you can direct them to those resources. If they're not familiar with more sophisticated smartphones they may be overwhelmed. Show them how to delete apps they don't want or need so that they can have a very simple, easy-to-use interface.

I use TRACPHONE. I pay $22 per month for unlimited phone, text, and stuff.

My android is a Blu View 3.

No real problems mastering any of the features...except receiving phone calls.

Your response may suit you but it holds no value for society.
The very nature of life is to change, advance. Sitting still is falling behind as everything is relative.

I have no clue what tattoos or piercing have to do with this discussion. Those are tribal bonding manifestations. Completely different.

For the record, I have no tattoos or piercings as their is no group I wish to be associated with that uses these symbols.
I do think a belly button piercing on a young women is sexy as hell though.

Using old phones can limit or eliminate capabilities.
Beware, very aware if you take this rout.
