What happens once all abortions are made illegal in this country?

Anyone who thinks that abortions will remain legal in parts of this country are just fooling themselves. The aim of a minority of Americans is that all abortions will once again be against the law and they will not stop until they have succeeded. They have ended Roe, next they will stop the use of abortion medications, and finally contraceptives, it will be a never-ending process that might take many more years, but it will happen. The final nail in the coffin will be the life begins at conception and giving a fetus the same rights as a live person. The real problem not faced by those who wish this is what happens then. The same people who want to end abortion also want to end what they call the welfare state. So in what is one of the wealthiest nations on earth, many more children will starve than already do. Of course, the wealthy can still send their women out of the country to get what the rest of the nation cannot.

One thing we'll always know is that the wealthy will still have no problem with getting a safe abortion whenever they please - because that's the way it always was before Roe v. Wade.

Instead of worrying about the rather obvious intentions of the Christian Radical Right I would suggest we stop them....stop them dead in their tracks. Their "intentions" are not broadly popular. Their primary tool is the abuse of power. So take the power away.

There will be more poor and neglected kids. There will be more poor women dying in back alley abortions. There will be more women disabled from pregnancy who will no longer be able to be effective parents or workers.

Crime will increase. The need for social safety nets will increase.

And the only ones unimpacted will be, as @MamboDervish pointed out, the wealthy. Because they'll just take a vacation somewhere else and handle their business there. As it was before and is now for people in states where abortion has been banned.

There will be a shift to a significant majority of Americans supporting a Constitutional amendment guaranteeing basic minimal abortion rights like it should've been handled to begin with instead of the stupid, careless approach that was carried on for 50 years.

This is why you don't try to solve complex issues with a one-size-fits-all, iron first rule approach. Start with where everyone pretty much agrees and work up from there. It's the only intelligent strategy to address abortion.

Poor women will be back to sketchy back-alley procedures which is exactly what they deserve.

The street value of mifepristone makes smuggling the drug lucrative.

Clearly, you grossly underestimate what it takes to get a constitutional amendment.

Lower income families will end up having more unwanted children….

The only way all abortions would be made illegal is if every state passed an abortion ban...which isnt going to happen...so stop peeing yourself over stupid shit. If you are concerned about your state, lobby your politicians to ensure your state protects abortion rights.

Who knew?? An emerging new product line for the Sinaloa Cartel ! Won't they be pleased.

And just in time! What with all the recent drug decriminalization efforts, the DEA was worried they would all soon be out of a job.

Except it took a SC full of lying radical Catholics to kill Roe.....lets not continue the dishonesty that Dobbs had anything to do with jurisprudence. Alito told us the score in his concurring Opinion. He did not even hide it.

Did you hear lunatic Alito in Oral Arguments over Mifepristone? When are you going to propose that we fire up the ovens Justice Alito? That can't be far behind.

I will only agree with you to the extent that those that support women's reproductive rights should not have stopped at Roe. They should have kept at it till they had Roe codified in specific and intentional Law as opposed to reliance on the implicit Right to Privacy. Not that the implicit Right to Privacy shouldn't have been good enough. It should have been. However you had to be blind not to see this day coming, the day that white men simply becoming less relevant than they once were, were scared by it and reacted just as scared people that still had some power react. Clearly they are much effected by the loony tunes arguments that the Right makes that are designed to keep them running on that treadmill of Abuse of Power.

SCOTUS cannot overturn an amendment.

To repeat:

None of which justifies the SC writing Law which is in effect what the Roberts Court has been doing all the way back to Citizens United. It is attempting to do it again messaging the RW that it should come back to them with a case that is actually built around springboarding off of the Comstock Act.

What will happen? The same thing that happened before Roe v Wade; back alley botched abortions and a lot of misery. People with means will travel to Mexico and other countries where it's legal. People without means will needlessly suffer. The children born to poverty stricken parents will suffer. Welcome back 1950's!

Ever see "In the Heat of the Night" with Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger? Just like that.

Not far enough for the Radical Right. 1850's.....now you are talking.

?? Because it's very difficult to get. It requires at least 2/3rds of the House, and 2/3rds of the Senate. The last one was over 30 years ago, and the only reason it was easy was because it had to do with the pay compensation for the representatives that were voting on it. The one before that was back in 1971 setting the voting age.

We'd be lucking to get an abortion amendment in 20 years.

What's 2/3rds of 50?

But you are discounting the effect of having to defend instead of being on the offense. If anti-women reproductive rights advocates were put more on the defensive because of a spirited offense by proponents of same, we would not now be dealing with this nonsense of the "Personhood rights of a zygote" and of "embryos frozen in stasis outside the womb."

That nonsense would not have reared its ugly head if those who wish to drive women back to the Kitchen and the Bedroom "where they belong" had to defend instead of being allowed to be on the offensive FOREVER.

And right there is how you know that the pro-life goal is not reducing abortions or saving fetuses it's about controlling women, especially poor women and it's based on vindictiveness not Christian love.
