NBC reports, "Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has told his staff to identify any members of the military who have mocked or condoned the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk so that they can be punished, two defense officials told NBC News.

Several service members have been relieved from their jobs because of such posts, the officials said, adding that Hegseth’s directive also pertains to others associated with the Defense Department. It’s unclear exactly how many people have been disciplined.

It appears NBC isn't paying attention to Trump.

Nobody is. The media is not using the Department of War designation.

I was in High School when Challenger blew up on launch. It was barely a day later that people were making jokes. We called it Dark Humor, or Graveyard humor. A way to process the horror. Tasteless? Sure. Disrespectful? Absolutely. But it happened and still happens.

Now of course, the people who scream that everyone is too sensitive when they say something, are the ones in charge and they make the sensitive folks, look cynical and apathetic by comparison.

Hey Hegseth, did you not stay for Arts and Crafts at Nazi Camp?

Yep, those jokes showed up within a day or two at school even though there was no internet back then. I still remember two of them. It's kind of spooky how fast that happened.

They're upgrading it to "Department of 'and I'm out of bubble gum.'"

Trump makes silly, impulsive decisions on performative disguises.

Yes, but it was the Columbia disaster that changed the whole emphasis at NASA. Need ANOTHER Seven Astronauts.

It’s a nickname until Congress green lights the official change.

Future lawsuits in the making.

Now it is true that it is a violation of Regulations to make disparaging comments about someone in the Chain of Command. However, Kirk was a Civilian, and there is no regulation about that. Soldiers have the same right to free speech, out of Uniform and off duty as the rest of the Population.

You be in MAGA America now, Mann! ;)

God Bless you and Thank You for your Service, and for remembering!

I'll be honest. I always feel uncomfortable when someone thanks me for doing my Duty. It was an Honor to serve the nation. I got more out of it than I put in to be brutally honest. I learned a great deal that has served me through my life. I am sometimes troubled by what this Nation is becoming. As if we did just a little more we could have prevented it. I believe it is too late now. We have passed the point of no return. The MAGA RW is in the starting blocks, waiting for the race to start. Unwilling to compromise or see the Left as fellow Americans. When the Supreme Court says yeah the Law says the President can't do that, but we think the enforcement of that law would hamper the Administrations ability to Govern. Suffice to say that turns the Constitution on its head. It began life as a restriction on the power of the Government. Now it is an all encompassing excuse to do whatever they want.

Amen.

I feel, had I not been born crippled but still of the same mind I would have served our Nation, I tried, was rejected, but I feel I would be of the same mind as you and have been blessed to have served.

I am old, feebled, where my mind is the best working part of me, and even that is not as impressive as it once was.

But one thing about me that is not enfeebled, always healthy, always strong, that is the love for our Nation, and I too am, as they say, sore afraid for her fate.

I see our Constitution sidelined to the whims of our elected members who are violating their oaths made to that very document they now eschew at every turn.

I am old.

I won't be here that much longer, so I will likely miss the worst of what is to come.

I am so saddened to see my Nation on this path and I just want to cry knowing what sort of world we old folk are leaving to those to come.

Next, he'll change the Department of Justice to the Department of Revenge.

I've always felt the same way. I joined for selfish reasons. I wanted to see the world. After active service, I went into the Reserves to help pay my way through graduate school. After that, I stayed in because I mostly enjoyed it, with my annual active duty either in San Diego or Pearl Harbor--not exactly hardship posts. When I turned 60, I became eligible for retirement pay and military health insurance, which is the best in the nation.
So, yeah. For me, it was like hitting the jackpot.
