So I'd say that he's looking to extort hard currency and / or food from the west that has historically worked using the same actions that have worked before.

Makes me wonder if he'd have just asked, and / or taken a different approach, wouldn't the NGOs have come in and done the same?

Thank you for your excellent post.

While China does not like him they still support him because he provides a buffer between A US ally and China

China is finally doing something because they are actually afraid of Trump and don't want the area destabilized because it is not in their best interests. No other president has made China so afraid and that has forced them to be stronger against NK then any other president has gotten out of them.

So what would be that per life value today?

You are the one making a big deal out of it. It's your question to answer, not mine. All I know is that 5 million is a smaller number than 20 million. People, not dollars.

You were the one who introduced the concept of lives versus payment of money. All I am trying to get you do is to quantify your amounts so we can determine if your statement has any validity or not.

They talk but they do not do much against NK. They do not have sanctions against them and trade with them freely

You are the one who brought up the value of lives, I didn't. Why can't you state what you think the value of a life is? The value of one life is one. Therefore, 5 million lives now are cheaper than 20 million lives later. Simple math.

You mean that when you figure the cost of a war you fail to calculate the cost in human lives? Is that what you do?

For the first time, these new sanctions take a huge bite out of NK.

A Chinese government official said last month that China-North Korea trade was worth $2.6 billion in the first half of 2017, up about 10% over the same period last year.

Ummmmmmmmmmm. The new sanctions just took place about a week ago. They probably even had time to be implemented yet. Please keep up to date on current events if you want to be taken seriously.

Greetings, Erik. :2wave:

I can somewhat understand Kim's saber-rattling. If he would have to admit that because famine is threatening, he needs outside help, it puts him in a position of looking like he can't handle his country's problems without outside help, so he's being forced to ask for assistance. With the ego he has, and the persona he has presented to his people, that ain't gonna easily happen. The sad thing is that he's not much concerned about any group getting fed except the military, because he needs them more than the "little people" in order to stay in power. How do you deal with a dictator like that, when everyone, including the UN, knows what problems a long term lack of rainfall can cause?

No one wants to attack NK, except over the nuke thing. If Little Kim had never gotten nukes no one would have wanted to attack him at all. It is NK who attacked SK.

I tried to explain earlier why NK went ahead with nuclear development. Received a snide reply.

Funny how if the right defends Trump on anything we are called names and yet here you are defending Little Kim.

Most of N. Korea's food comes from China. The agreements that supplied N. Korea with food and fuel in the past were based on the ending of his plutonium production. Are you saying Kim thinks he can use the same ploy on the west again? You do know that this latest exchange of threats was initiated by Trump and not N. Korea. That is only thing new here, Trump's bellicose but empty threats.

Ummmmmmmmmmm. The new sanctions just took place about a week ago. They probably even had time to be implemented yet. Please keep up to date on current events if you want to be taken seriously.

You are correct. But who is North Korea's biggest trading partner even after the sanctions? Remember....you want to be taken seriously. LOL

Seems you believe that Trump launched ICBMs from North Korea.

Oh. Wait. He didn't. Fact of the matter is that Kim Jung Un has taken those aggressive and threatening actions.

Why not go off and get some facts first, rather than fact free posts?

And yes, it does appear that Kim Jung Un believes that he can shake down the and west, and the US in particular, using the same old tactics that have historically worked before, as they did in previous Democratic presidential administrations.

Is this the first missile test from N. Korea? Is his developing missiles a surprise to us? Don't we test missiles too? I fail to see the purpose of making empty threats of war, for any reason. We are better than that and it brings us down to their level.

Where did I fail to calculate? Please reread my post you quoted. It's right there.

Here is what you said?

The value of one life is one.

The life is worth one what exactly _______________? And do NOT tell me one life because that is a dog chasing its own tail. One what? One dollar?

Is this the first missile test from N. Korea? Is his developing missiles a surprise to us? Don't we test missiles too? I fail to see the purpose of making empty threats of war, for any reason. We are better than that and it brings us down to their level.

The new facts here are that the latest missile tests from NK have demonstrated the ability to reach continental US.

This, with the also new information that NK can, and may have already, miniaturized their nuclear warhead, and then along with their historical track record of their seemingly irrational behavior along with their irrational claim that the US will invade them any day now, significantly raises the threat level to any sane and rational person.

I really don't think that South Korea, Japan, and other US allies in the region, have your same blase' position / opinion on this threat level.

50 years of policies of appeasement and payoffs have gotten us to this very position, with legitimate nuclear threat to the continental US from an irrational national leader. Your position is to continue the same failed policies?

You are correct. But who is North Korea's biggest trading partner even after the sanctions? Remember....you want to be taken seriously. LOL

If China enacts these sanctions, which they agreed to, NK will be taking a huge hit. And China has every reason to enact the sanctions because they know that Crazy Trump has his finger on the button, something China does not want.
