a German breakfast:

A German breakfast is a variation of the “continental breakfast” found in many European countries, but with some German twists. Think sausage, Brot, and pastry. In most cases, a “German” breakfast (with some regional variations) is the same as breakfast in Austria and Switzerland.

Germans are serious about their baked goods and that starts with breakfast. A German breakfast consists of hearty Brot (breads) and Brötchen (rolls), decorated with butter, sweet jams and local honey, thinly sliced meats, cheese and even some Leberwurst. Top that off with a pot of coffee or tea, or get fancy with Saft (juice), gekochtes Ei (boiled egg) and yogurt or Quark topped with Obst (fruit) and muesli.

A bread roll - with butter and thinky sliced Lyoner-Wurst inside - and to eat it out of my hands while walking. :)
 
I usually eat sweet breakfast ... the thing with sausages and ham and eggs for breakfast is very English and American and some older Austrians/Germans also do it.

I usually drink coffee or a hot chocolate (when I am lazy, cold chocolate "kau-kau" with milk) or a joghurt or cornflakes/Müsli with milk. Apples into it, and bananes into it, or fruits.

Sometimes, I eat butter breads with honey on, or various jelly (prefer strawberry, or self-made apricot jelly).

Yes, this kau-kau is a normal pronounciation of cacao here.
In our region we sometimes say: kaka-o - with makes others laugh. :)

What I wonder: Are these things so completely unknown in Anglo-Saxon circles? :)

Apple butter on toasted cinnamon bread is amazing for breakfast. I like apple butter on pancakes and waffles too.

I suppose the Anglo-Saxons dont know the Butterbrot culture
Butter on bread is common accompaniment for lunch and dinner. Warm bread out of the oven with butter is great.
