What do unvaccinated healthcare workers know that we don't?

It's not a result of their knowledge; at this point, 96% of doctors are vaccinated. It's also screamingly obvious that, even with good PPE (which isn't always available), unvaccinated health care workers can spread COVID.

Unvaccinated health care workers responding to the same disinformation, lies, and concerns as other people. They are, after all, just people. We should note that a high percentage of them are black and Hispanic, who are generally a bit more reluctant about the vaccination than whites and Asians.

Also, many of them already had COVID, and believe (mistakenly) that this gives them immunity. However, the natural immunity to COVID is much less effective, more variable, and probably shorter-lived, than immunity produced by a vaccine.

Keep in mind that recovering from a virus doesn't always produce immunity anyway -- e.g. almost no one can build a natural immunity to malaria.

Like the title says, what gives?
In any sufficiently large population, you have around 5-10% of people who are completely out of touch with reality. Sociologists actually tend to what off both ends of any given study for this reason.

Also, the term health care worker may be the guy who is changing your bedding.

Do you think that they would like to go to Russia to volunteer?

Here’s an example:
In 2006/2007, LPNs (20.55%) and respiratory therapists (19.28%) had the highest smoking prevalence.

My doctor stated that he HAD to get the vaccination because he came into contact with so many sick people. He said he was going to have to treat people who didn't realize they were positive. He said if he was a regular person in our area, he would not get it yet.

I have two people I know well, and are both nurses. One's a Trump loving QAnon believer. She is not vaccinated, nor will she ever wear a mask outside of the required boundaries.
One is a left leaning lesbian. She's vaccinated, and wears masks in crowded areas.

So, the answer is, they didn't take the job for their love of science, they took it to make money. Their personal beliefs still override logic.

This.

Thread subject talks about "healthcare workers" but a lot of them are not MDs and are much less reliable for medical advice. As other pointed out, 96% of docs are vaccinated. Even among docs, I know some Trumpkins that still think Covid is just a cold. Some are just too biased despite their degrees.

My doctor stated that he HAD to get the vaccination because he came into contact with so many sick people. He said he was going to have to treat people who didn't realize they were positive. He said if he was a regular person in our area, he would not get it yet.

I suggest you change your doctor. They are among the 4% who should not practice medicine.

Like the title says, what gives?
No, they don't. If you have a big enough family, you probably have a "crazy uncle/cousin" that can't be convinced of anything through logic and facts. The medical community is large enough. Even in the medical field there is a surprising amount of non-scientific thinking. Humans, by nature, are not very good at risk assessment. Medical personnel are human. They follow form.

Belongs in the CT forum.

Like the title says, what gives?

For the most part I would guess they know how to continue to be healthcare workers.

Other than that I would be hesitant to ascribe expertise to a whole group of people simply because their job suggests they should know better.

A good percentage of otherwise reasonable people often hold unreasonable beliefs. A good percentage of otherwise smart people do too.

As has been mentioned, doctors are 96% vaccinated. I assume they know a thing or two about healthcare. It seems pretty rational to follow their lead.

But here's the stupidity. Biden offers them $100 to get vaccinated and rush to get it.
But they won't get off the butts to save their own lives before this.
Little wonder it's killing them.

In the United States of America, health care workers have access to the same information on the Covid-19 viral pandemic as the rest of us. There remain five basic steps we can take to reduce the risk of infection for ourselves and others.

Wash hands frequently. Wear a mask when among others in a public place such as a grocery store. Maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from others when outside the home. Get vaccinated. Check reputable sources for new/up-dated information.

Regards, stay safe 'n well.

My intolerance of public stupidity grows daily. I'm not fighting karma, I'm trying to negotiate a peaceful resolution!

A guest on Bill Maher had an interesting idea. For every Republican who gets vaccinated, donate $100 to Trump's legal defense fund haha.
