What Did You Learn From The Voters In This Election?

  • listen to the other side & compromise with them to get things done because the divide won't change

  • It's either my sides' way or the highway. I don't give a damn about the other side

Don't believe the bullshit the right wing Trump defenders are spouting. All these "trump won the black vote" with 15% (still lost 85%) or 20% or whatever lie they are saying today are fake. They are still counting votes. They are still counting votes largely in big cities. They are still counting votes in CA, and NY and even FL. They don't stop counting just because a state is called and the media stops caring. These votes are heavily big city, heavily Biden. Those "super" losing by 60-65 points with black voter wins will likely be closer to 90-10 in favor of dems. No demographic is 100% going to vote identically. That is assuming all people think the same just because they share a skin color. Republicans celebrating losing with a large demographic horribly but maybe a couple percent better is nothing more than then looking for a silver lining in the ass whopping they took this election, and 2018 and the grim forecast they face in 2022 and 2024.

votes have been counted for days and weeks for as long as i've been paying attention. many people like me voted by mail. i hope that all votes are counted.

I learned that if your goal is to reach out to the other side, you're going to have to make arguments that sounds at least somewhat reasonable to the opposition. That means avoid:
  • Calling Trump a racist, corrupt, mass-murdering moron if you're a Biden supporter talking to a Trump supporter
  • Calling Biden a racist, corrupt, demented pedophile if you're a Trump supporter talking to a Biden supporter
  • Stating things the other side believes to be unproven or untrue as fact, like Trump colluding with Russia to interfere with the 2016 election, or Biden being a national security threat because of ties to China. That doesn't mean you can't talk about these issues, but don't just state these things as fact if you're hoping for a reasonable response.
  • Trading insults. Any possibility of having a reasonable and honest debate is over once that happens.

Trump is racist.
Trump is corrupt.
Trump is a mass murderer.
Trump is a moron.
Russian collusion was proven it was just not penalized.

The solution is not to pretend these things are not true. One does not grow by ignoring problems, one grows by acknowledging, addressing and fixing the problem.

How do you split up? Do we have like 100 cities, each being individual countries while the rest of what's left is the Republican country?

That would be up to individuals, groups, states, etc. Maybe it would be dont like before. States simply declare independence and then form some new agreement between them. We can cross that bridge when people get tired of fighting.

Mathematics is not your friend.
Did it ever occur to you that 5% identify as something else or did not answer the polls? Knowledge is not your friend.

They are, but these people are touting that on election day, in person voting Trump had higher numbers with black voters. He also had millions of votes in leads that have eroded since then from big cities being counted. As votes get counted it will show he won far less than the early number. It stands to reason that him having 20% of the black vote on Tuesday has not held and won't hold at the end. It will be back down to 10.

Let's face it, this all boils down to 70 million people voted the lefty way and 70 million people voted for the righty way. We are a divided country. Republicans own most of the land in the US while Democrats own the big cities. Population wise, it's roughly a 50/50 split. That's just a fact. We either learn to live with each other and compromise over our differences or we fight for every vote we can to get a leg up on the other side so we can cram our values down the other half of the country. If it didn't happen this time (which it didn't) some of us will wait until 2022 hoping that it will happen then.
I learned that there are a hell of a lot more of us than them. And, that is a good thing.

Except that pretty much every deep blue state there is, is actually deep red, except for the large city areas.

I understand that, that is the case in every country on the world. There is always a difference between the cities and the rural people. What my plan does is keep together areas that have common interest be it agriculture or manufacturing or what have you. There is no perfect plan, but clearly we are no longer a united group of 50 states, so why keep pretending?

It's disgusting that the party of so called tolerance labels everyone who votes Republican are racists.

They sure like their Presidents to be racists. One hell of a lot of white people just love Trump, kind of hard to explain any other way.

1. The "deplorables" are different from the fascists and are not necessarily bad people (they probably need a new label as well). i.e. the single mom factory worker is not stephen miller
2. The poor and traumatized that went for trump are vulnerable to a social message if someone can make them feel safe and have a place in the world
3. Liberals need to figure out how to adjust their messaging for this group.

Well said. Blaming the other side for putting themselves first might make us feel better in the short term, but our side can't shirk our own responsibility for messaging that provocateurs from the other side can so easily twist into scare tactics to siphon away voters.

Honesty is admirable but it can also be brutal, and the Trump administration has taught me (through its complete failure to unite the country) that kindness and empathy are often the more useful tools to bettering society than always preaching my view of the truth without regard for others' personal experiences. This doesn't mean not standing up for the truth when someone spreads false information, it means not assuming evil intentions when simple ignorance and deep existential fear are the more likely culprits for this.

It depends on what we're compromising over.

If the issue is whether a road should be four lanes vs. six lanes, whether a state should have property taxes or sales taxes, what color a new school should be painted, whom a post office should be named after, where the stops on a new subway line should be located, whether we should invest more in wind or solar, I can agree to compromise.

Where I will NOT compromise is over laws that affect whether Black lives matter. Or whether womb owners are allowed to control their own bodies without government intervention. Or whether insurance companies have the power to cancel their customers over preexisting conditions. Or whether kids should be caged together with tinfoil blankets. Or weather POTUS should get away with breaking law after law after law.

he probably lost because he's an asshole. it happens.

This election I learned that Trump voters have one thing in common with Bernie Bros: They forgot that not only does their vote count, but so does everyone else's.

It’s instructive that the losing choice is number three. I’ve been a winner and a loser in elections for a long time. The people who are going to bitch and moan for the next four years are not the real losers, the American system of government is.
The incoming Admin is screwed anyway. They did not win with a mandate to do anything. They got weaker in the House, gained little in the Senate, have a mentally deficient president up to his neck in scandal, and a room temperature I.Q, as a second chair.

This whole idea of “never give up the fight” is up there with polling and suddenly, the winning choice is “Should Trump Kneecap the incoming Administration like They did to Him?”

Our enemies are laughing their asses off at you.

Why they would vote for a white nationalist is anyone's guess. When I was a kid, nazis were the bad guys. They still are.
And the Nazi’s changed clothes and came here as “progressives”, preaching the same old shit only now against the mythical “White Menace”

Projection is a terrible thing.

Pluralizing "nazi" doesn't require an apostrophe, and the nazis voted for King Tangface.

That Rush Limbaugh, Levine and Savage are a lot more powerful than I thought.

What every they tell their zombie horde, the zombie horde obeys.

#TRUMP2020 as an expiration date?

I actually like Pipewrench's plan of letting the local areas govern themselves more and have less intrusion not only from the feds but from the state governments. Therefore, rural areas would have laws and policies for rural areas and the cities would be able to govern themselves the way they wanted. We could do it county by county. Each county of the over 3100 counties would have their own rules, laws, and policies.

Great. A “Grammar Nazi”, just called half of America Nazis.

No, I tried to stop the nearly constant misuse of the apostrophe. As for nazis, they voted for Tweety if they were able to shuffle their tiki torches to their non-dominant hands for long enough to do so. That isn't really up for debate.

Trump gained in every demographic except white men. It is the left that is obsessed with race.
