What did you have for dinner? -Part dois

I wish I can say yes but it’s from a Mennonite butcher shop. Same place I bought the brats.😋
My mom bought the ones I remember, too. No delis or butcher shops around here, sadly.

Try making some. It really is easy. We still make it but without the bacon and add celery for a crunch. A small amount of vegetable broth (better than bouillon) is a good bacon substitute.
Basics are onions, bacon, vinegar, salt, pepper, sugar for balance, mustard, cooked and finely cubed or sliced potatoes.
Render the bacon, remove, sautee the chopped onions gently until slightly brown. Add the vinegar, salt, pepper, sugar and mustard to your taste, then toss in the potatoes and gently combine.

Thank you so much! I have every one of those things right now (great sale on bacon this week). I need some help with proportions for the dressing, though. Minced celery sounds good, too.

Just taste it as you go. You'll need less sugar if you use apple cider vinegar.

Grilled shrimp burger with sweet Thai chili sauce, chopped salad with chopped apples, cashews and poppyseed dressing, lemon water.
That salad sounds wonderful!

I bought one of the Dole chopped salad kits and added the apple and used a different dressing than what came with the kit. They’re much easier than doing it yourself.
I've tried those Dole chopped salads, but from my store the greens are always limp. Apple and cashew add-ins with poppy seed dressing sounds like a winning combination, though! I'm going to try it sometime.

My favorite is shell macaroni with a beaten egg added at end with pepper. My boys and daughter loved pastina that way, no pepper then though. It's my comfort food.
Reminds me of a dish I just learned this summer, pasta with basil butter. Found a recipe for basil butter, very easy, chop a load of fresh basil into tiny bits, add a bit of chopped garlic and stir into a softened stick of butter. (optional add a little lemon juice) When thoroughly mixed, reshape the butter into a stick and refrigerate. Lasts for quite a while. I really like it on spaghetti, just mix some butter in the hot drained pasta, sprinkle with parmesan. Made quick work of that stick of basil butter!

Nuremberger brats, Dijon mustard, German potato salad, cucumber and and onion salad, lemon water.
OMG, I love Nuremberger ! We have a German butcher near here, and whenever they have them, I get them. Usually have mashed potatoes with them. I'm not a mustard fan, but I like a sweet German mustard on the side.

Tomato and cheese, mayo, salt and pepper sandwich eaten over the sink to catch the drippings. OMG. Ice tea. The Boo is bunking with me tonight. He had a peanut butter and mashed banana sandwich. While we ate, we had a batch of slice and bake oatmeal raisin cookies in the oven for dessert.

I don't know. He most likely would. But when he was 3, we watched Singing in The Rain, in black and white, and he stood in front of the TV and swayed and danced for almost the entire movie. My heart was so full I could barely breathe. He's an old soul.
The other day he was watching Dora the Explorer on his iPad/Talker and I asked what she was doing. He gave me the talk to the hand, pointed down to the screen and ignored me completely.:giggle:

Here is my preferred method to break screen coma (use only for situations in which the child repeatedly shows no response to his / her name.)

1. Silently sneak up behind child
2. Contort your face into a wide eyed expression of comical, maniacal joy
3. Slowly insert your face upside down from above between the child and the screen while maintaining the expression

That has gotten a response for me every time.
