What did you have for dinner? -Part dois

Frozen pizza topped with seasoned ground beef, bacon, mushrooms, onions, Moz, and Tillamook Sharp.

Cheeseburger Pizza

I was going to make fresh potato knishes, sauerkraut and hot dogs, chicken soup, and then said to myself "why bother when we have this place just a short drive away?"

https://www.yelp.com/biz/knish-nosh-rego-park

Nope, they don't have their own web page, so this will have to do.

Brought back Matzoh Ball Chicken Soup (Jewish Penicillin), potato and kasha knishes, brisket filled pierogi, cheese filled pierogi, latkes (potato pancakes, served with a choice of sour cream or applesauce), stuffed cabbage, a huge fresh apple strudel, enough food for a dozen. There were four of us for dinner. All were complaining about overeating and a new inability to walk. Plenty left over and in the freezer. Didn't bring back hot dogs. Did bring back beer, actually pale ale.

My wife is shooting lightening from her eyeballs at me, complaining this is all going to her hips. The dog ate a potato knish. He refuses to move. We haven't touched the strudel. I think I'm going to die tonight from an exploded stomach. The cat is staring at me weirdly, and she only picked at a cheese pierogi. Oh, the guilt! It was all so good. :doh

At least my neighbors who joined us live right down the hall. The wife, they recently moved in, asked if we were Jewish. I told her no. She then asked why we eat like this? I asked her, why did she eat like this? She rolled her eyes and waddled toward the door, then remembered to wake her husband and drag him home. I ran in to them in the elevator as I arrived home, and made the invite. I think they hate me now. :) We'll see if they come back tomorrow for coffee and strudel?

When are you going to invite me over?

You have me at HELLO.

veggie burger with home made Big Mac sauce
Morning Star nuggets w/ BBQ sauce

Big Mac sauce was close, but i used the wrong kind of French dressing, i think. going to give it another shot eventually.

Our meat share included a very well-marbled bottom round roast. That'll be tonight.

I like to coat it in a crushed garlic/olive oil mixture, then add paprika, chili powder, rosemary, and a tiny bit of onion powder.

my wife and i went to a pretty good Mexican restaurant near our new house and split a meal.

1/2 quesadilla
1/2 cheese enchilada
1/2 bean burrito
1/2 Mexican rice
chips with salsa / queso

To accompany simple pork tenderloin cutlets dredged in herbed corn flour, baked, and leftover heated up potato pancakes, this:

Orange slaw (mayo free)

1 shredded navel orange
1/2 lb shredded cabbage
1/4 cup dried cranberries soaked in water for about 20 minutes and drained
1 oz apple cider vinegar
1/2 oz rose water (optional)
2 tbs applejack
1 tsp of honey

Toss, chill for a half hour if you want, but I think it tastes better at room temp.

Mulled cider to wash it down, followed by raspberry shortcake with a bit of creme fraiche and touch of orange bitters, and cafe au lait for desert.

And what eat it raw?

Took the dog for a walk and we stopped at the local fish store. Picked up some fresh (caught this morning) small loin boned cod steaks. Got some small red potatoes quartered, boiling in water with halved crimini mushrooms. When they're semi-soft, about 15 minutes or so, I'll drain them, keep them covered in a bowl, until I'm ready to toss them back in the pot with chunks of the cod, pearl onions, 1/2 cup of whole milk, 1/4 cup of heavy cream, 3 tbs of arrowroot flour, but first I'll sauté a few cloves of garlic in the pot with Irish butter, with a 1/2 tsp of kosher salt, 1 tsp fresh ground black pepper and the juice from half a lemon with the flour before I add everything else. Let it all simmer for about 8 minutes, taste the sauce to see if it needs more pepper, then pour into bowls with about a dozen snow peas in each, garnish each bowl with some fresh parsley. Fresh cornbread with jalapeños in the oven, almost ready to cool on a rack. While the stew is simmering, I'll steep a pot of green tea. While the dish is simmering we'll have some mandarin oranges, and for desert, a couple of homemade silver dollar oatmeal apple raisin cookies with rummed coffee.

Took a marrow bone out of the freezer yesterday evening to thaw it for the dog as an after dinner treat, the cat will get a small piece of the cod after its cooked. And after I put the stew in the bowls, I'll warm up the marrow bone in the same pot for ten minutes, to kill off any lingering bacteria, let it cool for another 10 minutes before giving it to the dog. He'll have stinky garlic breath after he chomps it, but so will we and the cat. That cornbread aroma is making me hungry.
