What did you have for dinner? -Part dois

The wife is doing a garlic, onion, brocolli, chopped (Hot Italian) sausage dish, put over al dente pasta. (Whole wheat - chewier is better)

Honestly, I'd use brocolli only with Cotechino sausage, but whatever. I don't feel like driving.

My friends and I went to Motorino for pizza. Best in the city- freshly prepared dough, wood fired oven and fresh, authentic ingredients.

I was stoked and placed my smartphone on the table beside my plate as I waited for the pizza, expecting to snap a picture as soon as my order was brought to the table so I could show it to all of you. My pizza arrived, topped with Italian sausage, fresh mozzarella, prosciutto and bacon. I munched on it like a rabid dog. As I set the plate aside (all that was left were the outer crusts), I realized that I forgot to take the picture! GRRR!!! :doh

My friends couldnt stop laughing at me. I must be getting old...

Hmmmm.......

I call that an excuse to go back. So you can get the picture, of course...

chicken salad sandwich
salt and vinegar chips

i'm generally not a huge fan of chicken salad, but this one was good. GF brought me home one from a lunch they had at work.

lean cuisine spinach and mushroom pizza
salad

hamburger helper lasagna
artisan garlic bread.

the GF and i were marveling about how little hamburger helper has changed since the 1980s. it's a bit like stepping back in time, and i dig it. bread, on the other hand, has improved by orders of magnitude.
What, exactly, makes bread "artisan"?

I'm ok with HB Helper. Have it maybe once every couple years.

Salisbury Steak, mushroom sour cream sauce, mashed potato french style, peas with butter.

for me, it's bread with something of a harder crust and a softer interior which resembles what you would have bought in a street market during the days of yore.

i will admit that it has changed almost zero percent since the 1980s, which has a certain appeal to my nostalgic side. however, it appears that "cheese lover's lasagna" is essentially the same thing as the more stereotypical "beef stroganoff" variety, except more yellow.

Even though I havent had HB Helper for decades now, I still remember its taste. LOL. Not something I would want to eat again.

I love chicken salad, but it needs to be fresh and made with real, full fat mayo. It's so good with some diced pickles and celery in it.

Veggie and bean burritos from Trader Joe's for Spawn 1 and I. Spawn 2 had fish nuggets from TJs. We all had some cucumber spears. The Mr. is entertaining clients at the Flyers game. I was going to treat the three of us to Chick Fil A, but decided to save the money.

Took pasta that was almost cooked, drained, added EVOO and Costco pesto. Topped with parm, walnuts and Craisins. Walnuts were baked on low with barrel aged maple syrup and salt, at the very end stirring in some salted butter. Lemon herb chicken breast marinated in buttermilk and cooked on the propane, with a spoon of Mexican style table cream stirred into the marinate after I cooked it. Orange Brussels sprouts with bacon. Old European style bread from the best bakery in Seattle with good butter. Wine.

Ya, that worked.

went out with the fam and a couple friends to a local pub. had half of a tenderloin sandwich, half order of fries, and some fried jalapeño cheese balls. good times.

lean cuisine spaghetti and meatballs

man, i love editing lean cuisines, and it makes them awesome. edits to this one :

garlic powder
oregano
shredded parmesan

the pizzas are awesome, too. i generally chop up some onion (added before microwaving) and add garlic powder and dried red pepper. i could probably start a blog about making diet frozen dinners taste awesome.

Those are great edits, and are staples in my household. I agree, you gotta add a little bit of BAM! when eating Lean Cuisines. Not that they're not pretty good on their own. My biggest problem with 'em is, they're tiny. I could eat like.......10 of 'em. I usually consume at least two. :D

they are so much better than diet frozen dinners used to be. however, i seldom finish one without saying, "well, that was woefully insufficient." lol. i suppose that's probably the point.

Lolololol! I actually get a little sad when the Swedish meatballs are gone. :( Oh, and licking the container is standard operating procedure. :D

Have you tried SmartMade dinners yet? They are the bomb, are made with no additives, and taste WUNNERFUL. The White Wine Chicken and Couscous is to die for. Portions are a bit larger, but they are a little spendy at about $3.50 a pop.
