what comes to your mind if you think of Spain?

Cool, very showy violin showpiece by legendary 19th century Spanish violinist Pablo di Sarasate:

My wife. Her family is originally from Avila Spain (her mom's maiden name was D'Avila) though they emigrated to Colombia in the late 1800s.

My classical guitar which is a literal work of art made in Muro de Alcoy, Alicante, Spain. And maybe one day I'll be able to play it the way it deserves to be played.

And the fact that one of our bucket list trips is to take a couple of weeks and just travel Spain by train. See real Flamenco, maybe stay in castle.

A gorgeous man (and his equally gorgeous son) that I knew. And bullfights. That being said, I would love to visit Spain.

If you want to see some fancy flamenco guitar playing, check out this guy. By the end he is going absolutely crazy.

Bullfights...I have a story about that.

A guy was visiting Spain and attended a bullfight. After the event he stopped at a local taberna near the arena that was selling gigantic meatballs. He ordered one and it was amazing. Juicy with a nice spicy sauce and the portion was huge. A week later he was back in the same market and stopped by the taberna. Looking forward to another meatball he inquired about them and was handed a plate with two much smaller meatballs. He made mention that the last time he was there the meatballs were huge and that he was a bit disappointed with the current offering. The shopkeeper replied, "Senor, sometimes the bull wins!"

Majorca, as the only place in Spain I have been.

Also, a fascinating history. Muslims to the south, Catholics to the north, eventually becoming Portugal, Aragon and Castille and Granada, eventually, becoming Spain(except Portugal of course). Queen Isabella was herself a remarkable historical figure not given enough attention in US schools.

The tube in Zaragosa. Bus and train rides. Madrid. Insane taxi drivers. The beaches in Valencia. Being terribly disappointing watching bullfights. Long hours smoking cigars and drinking espresso watching the city go by. Tapas bars. Lots more. I love Spain.

Oh so much! The beauty of the lush, green landscapes of Galicia, the lovely beaches of Andalucia and the Canary Islands, the elegance and charm of Madrid, Barcelona and Bilbao.

Christopher Columbus as Spain sponsored his voyage to the new world. The Spanish Armada and Cortez who conquered the Aztecs and Pizzaro who conquered the Incas.

That would be the only time I'd wish the bull lost.

That man is drop dead gorgeous and quite the fine artist. I just love his music. Isn't he Brazilian?

We made our way from France to Spain, a rather treacherous trip I might add. We arrived at some small town at the coast of Spain that must not have been in any tourist handbook. Small, quaint, lovely.
Later that night we looked for a place to eat and ended up at a restaurant. Paella was the dish of the day, take it or leave it.
After an amazing and unforgettable meal people gathered with their guitars and started playing.
We didn't understand a word they were saying, they didn't understand us, yet we felt like family. I think the intend was to be kind to us strangers.
What a memorable night. The spontaneity and the warmth is something I'll never forget.

Wellington's unbroken series of victories in the Peninsular war which led to the downfall of the tyrant Buonaparte. I have walked some of the battlefields, little changed.
