what comes to your mind if you think of Mexico?

We survived his first term. We'll survive the second. If you could develop more faith in America's institutions, you'd agree with me.
Given that TACO is actively working to undermine those institutions, with the full support of elected Trumplicans? You'll have to forgive my lack of faith.

Great Molotov song! I'd heard El mundo se ba a acabar but never this one.

Nonetheless, all honesty, the first thing that came to mind when I read this post title was bodies hanging from a bridge.

Yes, I know that's the U.S.'s fault for having a moronic "War on Drugs" which is furthermore designed intentionally to generate black market profits by targeting only the suppliers and not the demand. But it's a big no when it comes to thinking about dipping south of the border for a vacation, no matter who is to blame.

Mind you, on a drive round Iceland the stepdaughter saw a horse's head hanging from a bridge in the middle of nowhere ...

Actually, I don't. It's easy to have faith when things are going well. The real test is when they're not.

Sure we do. Culturally, we are vastly superior to most nations. HIstorically, and when you consider the importance of human rights, we are perhaps the most important nation in the history of the planet. Even Trump can't change that.

Your post is a hop away from ethnocentrism.

Maybe you could refrain from using your own cultural bias and avoid judging other cultures that are not your own. Try cultural relativism instead.

I see no reason why I should put aside my cultural sense of right and wrong in order to assess what another culture does that is right or wrong.

Look at your own profile signature. If that's not coming from your cultural biases, where is it coming from?

Did I compare my culture to others in a biased condemnation. No I didn't.

Your condemnation is based on your own bias.

You claim to be ashamed of America. I ask you again, from what framework of right and wrong do you make that assessment?

Because * people voted for trump. That's me criticizing my own culture.

I didn't condemn a different culture through my own bias. You did.

Try new bait.
Not bait, it’s just what many people think of when reflecting upon Mexico. The lovely beaches - soft sand, warm water, blue skies. Jovial, festive food. @NatMorton whining endlessly in the background. Majestic Mayan ruins. Sleepy, lazy picturesque lagoons. It’s all part of the Mexican experience.

I forgot about the cenotes!

Truly a magical experience.

And I’m now curious to know more about the sea turtles…

Hope this fact doesn't trigger anyone, but Mexico clocks in with the world's fifth highest murder rate.

(Also let it be know that the US is depressingly high on this list.)
