Who here has ever had poke sallet? My great aunt used to fix it, made ya wanna smack yo momma, it was so good! Ya had to know how to fix it right or it'd make ya sick or even kill ya...:p

The term “poke salad” is actually a misnomer. Even though that’s what a lot of people call the most common pokeweed dish, its true name is poke sallet or poke salat. That’s because poke has been eaten for so long by our European ancestors here in North America. The word sallet comes from an older form of English, and refers to something like a cooked salad. So, now you know: “poke salad” is actually poke sallet.

I've never had it but I had some growing under a pine tree. It's really very beautiful in the fall chartreuse stems, black berries and hot pink stems. Also it took me months to figure out what it was.

Thanks for the education, @Elora. No, I never ate poke sallet. I'm a Yankee. Also: this rendition of the song ("Polk Salad Annie") was far better than the one I grew up hearing on the radio. Thank you for posting it.

By the way, I noticed that people write about the "poke" weed, but the "polk" salad. Being from the north, I'm not going to guess why that is. :)

Every version of Jolie Blon I have ever heard is excellent. Everyone has a favorite. This is my favorite.
Pas mal. On peut comprendre les paroles!
(Not bad. One can understand the words!)
The broken Cajun gets difficult sometimes. :)

How many summers still remain?
How many days are lost in vain?
Who's counting out these last remaining years?
How many minutes do we have here?
Wasted days
Wasted days
We watch our lives just fade away too
More wasted days
How much sorrow is there left too climb?
How many promises are worth the time?
And who on earth is worth our time?
Is there a heart here that I can call mine?
Wasted days
Wasted days
We watch our lives just fade away too
More wasted days
How can a man watch his life go down the drain?
How many moments has he lost today?
And who among us could ever see clear?
The end is coming, it's almost here
Wasted days
Wasted days
We watch our lives just fade away too
More wasted days
Wasted days
Wasted days
We watch our lives just fade away too
More wasted days
Wasted days
More wasted days
We watch our lives just slip away too
More wasted days
