What policies or positions of the party or the politician are considered moderate? I'm talking about specifics that would lead a voter to cross party lines or would sway independents one way or the other. What position that would cause a republican to vote democrat or democrat to vote republican.
It's pretty clear we don't see much of that and the real battle seems to be to sway independents.

The Democratic party is a moderate party, so, basically all of their positions.

The Republican party used to be center-right, but they've gone off the cliff to the right.

I really don't understand what you are trying to figure out.

The policies are not even the issue. Whats missing is finding middle ground and areas for compromise.

There was a time when Eisenhower Republicans and Kennedy Democrats could work together for the good of the country.

There was a time when conservative Democrats and liberal republicans were part of Congress and not anathemas to their party.

Now due to internecine caterwauling and tribalism, those positive attributes are extinct.

Democrats have drifted toward the center. Republican policies will be published in two weeks.

Better Health Care
Better infrastructure
Better Education
Better established and protected equality
National security
protect democracy from things like 1/6
STRONGER safety nets IE social security

I am a John Kennedy and Tip O'Neill type Democrat.

I am also a Reagan type Republican.

It pretty much puts me in the crossfire of 90% of the Dem/Rep radicals of today.

I dunno part of me thinks its because of the defense of a status quo that is increasingly unbearable for many.

Democrats as a rule are pretty moderate so it would be easier to list the few extreme positions and claim the rest.

Defund the police is one. It isn't really popular like the republicans claim it is.
