A … bride and bridegroom walk side by side to the altar

B …. the bridegroom waits for the bride, who is led to him by her father … or others

Would be B. Personally though, Mayors office. Marriage certificate, schedule meeting with the Mayor, 2 witnesses, signed, done.

B. I've never seen A in a formal wedding. Frankly, it had never occurred to me that was an option.

Ok now.... why do you ask? Is this a norm somewhere?

video cannot be played in Germany

It is from an Australian movie called Muriel's Wedding. It is just a woman being walked down the aisle by her father to the song I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do by ABBA.

it was the norm for Catholics in Germany .... and often still is

Ok, TIL.

I figured the groom waited for the bride, because he's going to be waiting for her for the rest of his life and may as well get used to it....

ba-DOOM shick🥁

and how embarrassing if the bride does not come!
in case A that cannot be.

The idea is growing on me. Approaching the altar together as equals who are choosing this together.... yeah, maybe that sets a better tone overall. :)

Exactly my point! 👍

I don't see it catching on here though. The wedding is seen by most as The Bride's Big Day, showing off her beauty and style and majesty and yadda-yadda. (The assumption is the groom would just as soon have a 2 minute wedding wearing bluejeans.)

Lotta Bridezillas in 'murica, you know.

you are right.
version A is declining, as the brides prefer to appear like a royal princess 🌹😎

... and the big problem, the ones who think the royal princess schtick continues after the wedding. :)

Yeah I think A sets a better tone. "We're in this together."

B is from the times when daughters were the property of the father,
to be given away to the highest bidder!

do we want that style?
