We got an overage of precipitation in May. The grass and the gardens were off to a very good start. That all changed in the first few weeks in June. The yard is in mid August condition and there isn’t significant rain in the forecast. Meanwhile my brother is in this Corpus Christi area and they are going through the first named hurricane of the season.

Living in central flori-duh, this heat dome everyone is talking about, is a normal summer day here. We have over a hundred days a year with ninety degree temps and above and that's leaving the humidity out. I have a love hate relationship with the state, hate the summers, love the winters.

First storm. Max sustained winds were in Mexico at 50 mph.

This is not going to be a good summer, comfort wise or FEMA wise.

"Since the beginning of 2023, FEMA has projected that DRF balances are insufficient to meet requirements," the agency said in a statement. "To mitigate this risk, FEMA has prioritized an effort to identify and recover excess funds from previously obligated contracts, grants, and mission assignments."

The UK has been really odd this year.

It's been super wet but also really sunny now and then.
The crops are doing fantastic and the weeds are going bonkers.

I've noticed the same thing around here: Grass is stressed now, which is a month or so "early", in contrast to previous summers. Anyone who has planted annuals has to water at least once every day. Moreover, even some trees are showing signs of stress.

And rain? A week ago patches of area around here experienced a brief, fierce downpour - which the dry ground can't soak up - which was the only precipitation in weeks, even though there had been forecast after forecast of possible/probable showers.

Same here in SE PA. I think the local farmers are going to lose their corn crops. :(

I'm in Connecticut, close to the Mid-Atlantic. It feels as if it has been raining all year so far. Everything is green. I've never been to Ireland, but I imagine it must look like this. My great-nephew is living in the Dallas suburbs so we compare notes. Today it was 93 degrees here. That's pretty unusual for June. I hear thunder. A thunderstorm is in the forecast. :)

And we're havin' a drought...our yard is brown...the mowers came to mow it yesterday and hubby told them don't bother...it looks awful... 😟

We just came back from Western Washington. The temperature was in the '50s most of the time and it rained on us two days out of six. It's really very green up there.

Here in California, though, summer is getting an early start and promises to be one of the hotter and drier ones.

But, we may as well get used to extremes of weather. They were predicted, and they're happening.
