Ok MMC. Obama does not bear sole responsibility for what is going on with terrorism that is associated with people who claim to be Muslim. That is the result of a combination of things that have been going on for many, many years. Part of it is the historic tension that exists between Jews and Muslims. Part of it is the result of the oil resources that exist in the ME. Part of it is the result of misunderstandings on the part of Christians, Jews, and Muslims about the purpose of religious principles. George W Bush made a big mistake invading Iraq. As a result of that, many tensions that were brewing below the surface have been exposed. Obama has inherited that mess, and while you are right to point out his ineptness in dealing with the situation in many instances, the truth is that it would be a mess no matter what anyone did.
The thing is this MMC, you can push for this war on "Islamic" terrorism (for lack of a better term), but if it is really going to be done right, that means the US needs to clean up the entire ME. That is just one part of it, but that is going to be the place where primary focus needs to start. I know you will not like this, but some of the biggest problems the US faces in the Middle East is the interests of our so called allies does not coincide with ours in many instances. That means that to really clean up the mess, we need to confront not only our enemies, but our so called allies as well. Now we can do that, but it will require a whole bunch of resources in terms of men and money and a commitment over generations. It will not be pretty at all. Over and above that, we would need to start on it rather quickly because the days in which the US has the ability to print unlimited amounts of money are coming to an end. When that happens, our ability to confront the issue in that way will be lost.
That problem will not be solved by some airstrikes and sending in a limited amount of troops for a short period of time because the root of the problem will still exist.
