I know people who were there. And that is exactly what they will tell you.

At first, like all the others, they posted selfies and smiled for their phones.

Then, apparantly as the shock started to register, and the global condemnation began to appear, they went silent.

Before the event was even over, social media was flooded with rumors and obviously made up claims about Antifa.

Silence followed for a few days. Then they began braying about ”free speech”, embracing the last gasp of the Trump Presidency.

One would think that people participating in illegal acts would know better, but apparently not. While I understand the logic they employed made them think they were on the "right side", but the law doesn't work that way. In this case, breaking and entering, vandalism, and assaulting police are still illegal.

You hear so many of them say it was the greatest day of their lives. Now many are losing their jobs, businesses and going to prison. They really thought Trump was gonna come to the rescue.

BTW... Practicing yoga will probably not work as a defense.

I would really like to hear in their words how the president saying "peacefully and patriotically make your votes heard today." means violently storming the capitol to take hostages, attack cops and hang pence, etc. Do they address that in any of their statements?

I don't want to hear it in the words of people that hate Trump and his supporters because they believe his supporters are all fascist, racist, Nazis setting up a dictatorship. That's as ridiculous as the people that attacked the capitol saying Trump told us to (IMO as of now, anyway)

I am not a fan of Trump and have stated that many times over quite a few years.. While I do like many of his policies, I believe he is an idiot and I dislike his personality.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/jan/16/us-capitol-rioters-donald-trump-pardons. Capital rioters complained today that they do not deserve prison because "they were only listening to the president". So they are asking for presidential pardons. These felons believe they were only exhibiting their patriotism. I..... I......I...... Yeah.....
gee, what a surprise!! People get arrested and suddenly there crimes are anyone’s fault but their own. “He made me do it” must be one of the most ancient and most used alibis in the history of law inforcement.

Now this is interesting.

They only believe things if they come from their sources.

Right now at this moment trumps defenders are claiming he never sent those folks to the Capitol to do what they did. So that is now the truth for them.

But at the same time those sake raiders are ssaying they don't deserve jail because they were just doing what trump told them go do.

Both are their "sources". Which one is true and which one is fake news?

The snake may have just swallowed it's own tail.

But they're also saying that they were doing what trump told them to.

And trump says he did no such thing.

Who is lying? Somebody is.

We actually believe the trump supporters are completely propagandized.

The things you claim we attribute to them we really attribute to those who pay those propagandists.

I actually spread an antifa infiltration rumor far enough ahead that it could have come from me.

Of course I was hoping to sow suspicion and turn them against each other. Which will have a better chance of happeneing because the idea came from their sources.

So, does this mean that they don't make any statements to support their claim that trump told them to break in and attack? I really am curious where they got that impression from. Even of those that went to the rally, only a small percentage of those participated in the riot. So, it certainly wasn't obvious to many...

Do you believe everything these nuts say, or just when they say trump told em to do it?⁴

TPFKAT fomented the insurrection.

That about sums it up. And those Trump supporters who weren't there are simultaneously defending the ones who were by passing the blame to "Antifa," while also writing them off by saying "Trump didn't encourage this," as this thread illustrates.

Donald is loved by his followers. Donald can do no wrong in the eyes of his followers, many who believe he was sent by God to right the wrongs that have been heaped on them by the evil left. When Donald speaks, they listen. They believe the things he says unequivocally. ... Donald told these people that he won the election by a landslide. But, because of illegal activity by the evil left, that election was stolen from him. This act alone on Donald's part enraged his followers and filled them with a sense of injustice and anger which culminated In the riots at the Capital. Now, Republicans can argue that Donald didn't incite his followers to riot. But the fact is that sans Donald's repeated instigation through claims of theft and injustice, the riot on the capital simply would not of happened.

I believe they think they were doing what he wanted them to do: stop the steal. Personally.

His campaign started beating that drum before the election even happened.

Your world is limited to that presented by your media.

Out here in consensus reality it never looked anything but unhinged.

Y'all.like to pretend we do what you do, reject anything you say.

But we get to get information from anywhere, not just one mediasphere.

And in consensus reality, all of the things that looked "suspiscious" to you were right in line with how the world had predicted they would.

They called what you saw as fraud the "red mirage". Where mail in ballots were not counted until election day and there were so many that they could not be counted as fast as the same day vote. So in the evening trump was ahead. As expected. And as the mail in votes came in they were overwhelming Democrat votes and that initial lead evaporated. As expected.

And you just started a response where you say something to the eeffect that it was still fraudulent ballots being delivered and not just the process playing out.

As expected.

Stop the steal

When the vote has already occurred, and all the legal challenges falied, what is left for people to do? Peacefully say pretry please let Trump stay in office. Anyone with a brain knew the chance of that March ending peacefully was nearly zero

Mebtioning once that they should be peaceful was all but drowned out by the rest of his remarks, the remarks by those who shared the stage with him, by the remark he made leading up to the rally and his doing nothing to stop the orgy of violence and mayhem.

This is from May 30th of last year. This doesn't even include the months leading up to the republican insurrection riot on the capitol.

While growing up, (that also included military service in a combat zone), it took a real man to face the truth rather than the easier route agreeing with others who were wrong. Those who take that easier route and aide in spreading the lie are known as chickenshits. It's pure and simple as that.

So, out of the millions that voted for him, 100k (or so) turned up at the rally that day. A large percentage of them did not riot or attack the capitol. Note: I am not certain of the number of rally attendees. I am certain that It was a tiny percentage that actually stormed the capitol, though.

Anyway... curious... when individuals or groups on the left commit violence do you also blame the left for instigation of that violence with their claims that the right is evil, or does that only count when Trump or Republicans do it?

Trump was smart enough not to directly call for violence. Everyone knew what what he was saying would lead to
He looks up to and admires mobsters. He talks like them. "If you missed your protection payment... it'd be a shame if something where to happen to you."

I did not claim the right is evil. It's my contention that they are just extremely gullible and easily led. Those that did storm the capital were radicalized by Donald and the alt-right propaganda Mill. Republicans may not wish to acknowledge that they have been misled, but for us standing outside their box looking in, it's all to clear. Lately, when I see the left protesting and rioting, I blame a government who ignores and condones decades worth of racism amongst their officers. I blame inaction to make the needed changes to stop these assaults from happening.
