How could things have gone so bad since then concerning race in this country. Electing Obama was supposed to be the end of racism and yet we now have more white supremacy groups than ever and then there are the white national evangelicals who believe we should be a white Chrisstian nation. Was it because we dared to elect a black president or because Trump seemed to imply that being a white supremacist was okay? Now we have a governor in one of our more populated states, Florida, trying to rid our history of the slavery and racism from books. I am old and probably won' be around to see how bad this goes for our counry, but I worry for my children.

What we are seeing now is the convulsion this country is going through as the demographics change and white people will no longer be the majority. The election of Obama was a wake up call to the people who are threatened by this change.

The election of Trump the psychopath who will pander to anybody as long as it benefits himself has brought the racists and fascists farther out of the closet.

Here's one part of an answer: while a majority of the country is largely against racism and elected Obama, a minority in the country has always supported racism, and fluctuates in size, activity, and agenda. One minute they're fighting for slavery, another they're the KKK, another they're 'states rights', another they're tea party, another they're MAGA.

You imply that racists are all Republicans. But I suspect there are racist Democrats too: working class men in particular. For them, Obama would be the lesser of two evils, until Trump came along.

Remember that Obama was outstanding regardless of his race. To a racist who isn't a flag-carrying White Nationalist, he was the "articulate Black man" worth making an exception for.

It was all of the above. Long ago Trump was on the Obama isn't from our country train, they couldn't stand that a black man became president and his name was foreign to them as well. They didn't elect him, so they weren't happy about it. That's what this new movement is about, protecting Christian White Heritage. These Christian Extremists are just Tea Party Jrs.

Progress comes slow and hard in America. It a fight all the way. Two steps forward, one step back. Obama was two steps forward, Trump was one step back. We're in the one step back phase right now, hopefully coming to an end. Just wait, those MAGA's will just fuel the progressive movement, it will grow and their push for a Christian Nation will back fire big time. That direction for conservatives was a huge mistake.

I think so too. For decades the primary demand of the Christian Right was the overturn of Roe v. Wade, and many of them even became tolerant of gay marriage once it was done. But now they will call for even less popular changes, like banning (some or all) contraceptives, or making adultery a crime, or even making sex before marriage a crime. The Republican party needs to be very careful how much support they give to those people: enough to gain their votes, but not so much that there is any onus on them to legislate ... which would be disastrous at the ballot box, if not in the courts.

The worst part of the trump experience was his control of media. He found his way in by spending a decade in Hollywood, managing to find all possible sources of funding. Some assehole friend of his comically suggested politics, and WHAM he found a new hobby.
He found Twitter, and realized the key to success if keeping his name in the news. It took me perhaps ten days to see his insanity, and then a whole year to realize he just didn't care if anybody else did. Unlike any other candidate before him, he talked all the time, and made sure his friends in the media repeated his every word. TO THIS DAY, it is plain to see who was his core delivery system for any and all opinions. And yes, he spoke freely and without concern for others' feelings, abandoning all morals when he gained office. His hatred bared to the world, every hateful, racist, woman-hating group in the country felt emboldened to come forward in response and support.
And that includes the impossibly corrupt and insane people who had been quietly ensconced in Congress.

Obama may have been our greatest President. Our only hope for a sane future lies with his legacy, presently embodied by his vice-president.

Mr Obama is of mixed ethnic origin, just like all the rest of us. Will the day ever come when the racially obsessed USA realises that Homo Sapiens is not divided into 'races'? There are hundreds of millions of gene pools, all overlapping with many others.

As for the racially obsessed USA, maybe you need to look closer to home:

All ten of them?

I'm betting that's a staged photo, you can still see the folds in the flags, they just took those out of the package.

Ask the people who seem upset about it, like those that absolutely want to ban children from being taught about slavery in schools.

And the religious right is emboldened by our reactionary SCOTUS. They think they can win there and they may be right.

1. I am old, too. (85)

2. Some people sincerely feel that a nation whose majority are African American and Hispanic ladies & gentlemen can be a successful nation and keep the United States of America as the leading nation of the world.

a. Maybe they are right. Of course, I do not know.

3. Some people (including me) respectfully disagree with that cheerful and optimistic prediction.

a. They point to the violence and corruption and disorganization that characterizes the American cities that are currently people-of-color majority.

b. Some optimistic Americans point out that once the Caucasian population is no longer in control of the nation, those currently malfunctioning cities will resolve their current problems.

4. ALL Americans do agree on one thing: Our great-grandchildren will be living in a country far different from today's.

Have a nice day!

Well, let's see now: My parent's generation vs my kid's generation:
Hmm, in most States, people can marry who they love, during my parent's time, couldn't marry a black or a gay person.
Hmm, while still a few blacks still being hunted down, we don't have daily lynchings like during my parent's time.
Hmm, female professionals, female political leaders, not just stay at home and cook dinner moms like during my parent's time.
Hmm, not as many attacks against Jews - oops - never mind, THAT hasn't changed.

I'll take today's world and I will have faith that our kids will make a better world in the future than we made it.

Race is a political issue in America. So, probably no hope for that. One of our parties of government is infested with White Nationalists and to appeal to them, they need to serve them.

I think our youth do hold the key to the future. I think it's obvious, and that's why conservatives are bringing government into the classrooms. They know it as well.

The more obsessed with white nationalists the left becomes, the more it will create.

Camera's only have so much coverage angle. That day in Charlottsville, there were hundreds of morons shouting, "Jews will not replace us".

So, you think Charlottsville, VA was a false flag? A women died that day at the hand of some crazed Nazi loving White Supremacist.

You're not fooling anyone with your stupid comments.

It was NEVER supposed to be the end of racism
anybody that said that was flat out wrong and had no understanding of what racism actually is or about the country

what we are seeing are the nutters and bigots are one edge
equal rights overall have been winning and the country has been making progress in these areas

not as much progress as we should have not as fast as we should have people will argue but progress none the less

safe spaces for bigots were shrinking, them losing their privilege and being able to treat people as lesser, say they are lesser etc was getting harder

they see it, they know it so this is their last stand basically. This is their rally, this is their fight . . .

But IMO the reality is the war is already over and they lost
there will be some battles they win and roadblocks put up and many delays here and there . . . .. and theres still much to over come but the end is inevitable IMO
equal rights will continue to win and overall they will continue to lose

Wow.

You not only said the quiet part out loud, you shouted it from a rooftop with a bullhorn.
