Consider if the Vice President and the Speaker had been captured and held or killed, President Trump could have declared a state of emergency before the election had been ratified and declared martial law. And "the die is cast". Is this why he waited 4 hours and did nothing.

The legislature was very anxious to ratify the election once the capital cleared. I speculate that we were much closer to a coup than we are told. Trump's relative silence for several days after smells of a house arrest.

He would certainly have not allowed Biden to be ratified. That was his reason for the Rally. If you consider the timing and all that was said leading up to the ratification it fits. Many were counselling Trump to declare martial law. Even the pillow magnate had it on his cue cards during his talk with the president. The capital invasion could have been the perfect opportunity if it had succeeded with the stated aims some of the attackers have since expressed.

There were people in the mix who were willing to assassinate US politicians. Whether this was a coup attempt partly depends on whether that was just a few of them or a significant bunch of them.

It would not have taken many. Not if the goal was to give President Trump grounds to declare martial law. Why would some of them have hand ties?

Insurrection

It's what's for GOP dinner

This is propaganda of the worst kind.

If Trump was planning to declare martial law he would have done so. This kind of "what if" crap has been going on since day one and it's just ridiculous. "What if Trump launches nukes?" "What if Trump turns us all in to Putin's troops?" "What if Trump starts killing people that are just peacefully trying to sneak into our country illegally"

You lefties have completely lost all perspective and rational thought has gone out the window.

There were hundreds of people there.

They didn't all share the same goals, but some of the people wanted to stage a coup. They said as much in the videos they posted to social media during the riot.

No.

Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, said on Sunday that former President Donald Trump’s Senate impeachment trial is constitutional and that Trump’s alleged involvement in the U.S. Capitol riot is an impeachable offense.
Romney’s comments come after several Senate Republicans have voiced support for a disputed legal argument that holding a Senate trial after a president has left office is unconstitutional.

“It’s pretty clear that the effort is constitutional,” Romney said during an interview on CNN. “I believe that what is being alleged and what we saw, which is incitement to insurrection, is an impeachable offense. If not, what is?”

What if he incites an insurrection and his supporters invade the Capitol to kidnap and murder legislators? That is what happened.

"I believe XYZ therefore XYZ is true".

That ain't exactly classical logic.

They only broke into the Capitol armed and with zip ties to make sure that it didn't need any emergency temporary repairs. The breaking in part was a misunderstanding about keycard access.

As I said if the Vice President and the Speaker had been captured or killed before Biden was ratified, what would President Trump have done? Accepted Biden as President?

He would declare martial law and remain in office. Yes that sounds insane but remember that he is.

He led a literal insurrection against congress just a few weeks ago.

There is a theory that Trump’s delay in acting was because he wanted to see how the storming of the Capitol was working out. The thought being that had Pence and Pelosi been detained, then Trump would have declared an emergency and called for martial law......🤷

???

I'm thinking you are in the wrong thread.

You are dismissed.

OK, just what was it then?

Oh, God Bless you.
Doesn't matter what it was, it was not a coup.

Thanks, but I don't need any blessing that you might ask from God.

It was an attempted coup and being unsuccessful does not change what it was. Bank robbers who fail to get any money are still bank robbers.
