WALMART TO JACK UP PRICES: "The magnitude and speed at which these prices are coming to us is somewhat unprecedented in history..."

Tariff money doesn't just disappear, it help fund our government so we can unburden other tax revenue sources. I should also point out that this will further empower the informed consumer to limit waste, price shop and make substitutions when necessary. Our landfills are already filled with cheap Chinese junk.
It merely adds to the burden, especially to the lower earners (see immediately below).

We're running huge deficits. Any plan to "unburden other tax revenue sources" now is laughably irresponsible.

Trump didn't run on empowering informed consumers to cut their spending, and he certainly didn't run on shifting the tax burden onto the lower classes.

He ran on lowering prices. He's doing the opposite.

Right. It's not germane because it's imperative that we all shit ourselves over the worst case scenario we can possibly imagine instead of actually looking at everything that's going on and coming up with a RATIONAL response.
Here's a rational analysis for you:

The status of Trump's insane trade war is, as of today, as follows:

The current average tariff rate is now 16.4%, the highest since 1937. And since international trade is now a much larger share of our GDP than back then, the impact is also much larger.

At the current rates, Trump’s tariffs, following last weekend’s retreat on China, are expected to cut overall U.S. trade by roughly 50 percent. Trade with China, at the new 30% rate, should fall by around 65 percent.

Cutting U.S. trade with the world in general by half and reducing trade with China by two-thirds is a massive disruption of the world economy.

And not that you care, but it will hit the lowest income earners the hardest.

This is because:
1) Low-income households spend a higher fraction of their income.
2) Poor and working-class families spend more on goods, which are facing tariffs, as opposed to services, which aren’t.
3) Goods whose prices will rise most tend to be items like clothing that loom large in lower-income families’ budgets.

And into the teeth of all this, the Republicans are planning a massive unfunded deficit-exploding tax cut that overwhelmingly benefits the rich.

Lack of the prices going up.
This posts reflects the same sort of quality logic as displayed by individuals who insisted COVID was no big deal because they didn’t wind up in a hospital from it.

Just because you, personally, have yet to see price increases doesn’t mean that there aren’t nor will be price increases.

We have Walmart AND Ford both making public statements about price increases and corporate projections.

But hey - you haven’t seen a price increase yet, so they must be lying.

Right for them it was no big deal so it was accurate.

Two very scummy operations that seek to cheat every penny they can out of their clientele.

Of course they're going to LEAP on this. Papa needs a new boat.

Liars lie that's what they do. Especially if they think they can get people to give the more money.

Well, if they are lying (as you claim) then one person alone gave them the cover for their lies - Trump.

🤷‍♀️

Either way, average Americans lose.

What you are saying is that US Government should control what we buy and we should pay high taxes to the US Government to pay for losing our liberties.

Wow. I'm glad you now you actually care about the deficit. Trump's finding additional tax revenue source AND using DOGE to eliminate out waste, fraud and abuse in government spending. Informed consumers that carefully shop prices will in fact lower demand and thus lower prices for everyone.

More than you, obviously, since even you must realize that the made-for-Fox "News" DOGE FW&A cuts constitute a tiny percent of the budget.

Even you must realize that Trump's massive tax cut, mostly for the rich, is massively irresponsible and budget-busting.

So don't pretend that you actually care about the deficit any more than you supposedly care about the landfills those tie-died hippy environmentalists have been decrying for decades.

Meaning I don't chant mindlessly "orange man bad"
No, you don't. Instead, you mindlessly chant "orange man good." Is that really any different? When was the last time you disagreed with Trump on anything?

"BUH BUH BUH BUH BUH BUH BUH BUH DIS HAZ TA B FAKE NEWS, DEER LEEDUR SED DAT CHINA WUZ GUNNA PAY!"
Just yesterday, it was announced that so far, roughly $200B have been collected by the US Gov. from tariffs.

Lest I remind the Trump nay-sayers that all that money came out of their pockets, the average working-class Americans. Let me continue to remind the nay-sayers that although Trump claims America will be so much richer, you, the average working-class Americans will not. This money will be used for the massive tax breaks for the oligarchy class of billionaires and corporations.

The only thing the average working-class Americans are going to see is higher prices and empty shelves. This is said to be the largest shift of wealth from the bottom to the top in American history.

This is what you voted for MAGAs. Enjoy.

This is delusional lunacy. The DoGE cuts have saved $150B, yet cost $120B to implement. The cuts alone to the IRS are estimated to cost the treasury $500B in lost tax collection. I don't how you do your math, but all computed, that's a major loss to the treasury and you add to that the additional $200B spent in this 1st 100 days compared to this period last year.

I calculate a $670B loss since all of the Trump/Musk chaos began. Where are those $5,000 checks Musk promised everyone a few months ago?

DOGE cutting spending is the gift that keeps on giving. It may cost money one time to implement cuts (i.e severance pay, restructuring) but the payoff is every year from now on.

Its going to cost us more until the Republicans get booted and the Democrats fix this massive **** up.

DOGE is the epitome of "penny wise and pound foolish".

Even if Democrats 'fix it up' in the future, it's still going to be better than the useless dog pile we have now.

Considering Trump wants to raise the debt limit by $4.5 trillion, how many years of miniscule savings do you think it will take to make up for the debt increase, not to mention the existing debt?

While I agree that the US is broke and needs attention, all this posturing and celebrating of DoGE is just noise. No one in the GOP is concerned with the national debt. If they were, they'd be a flat 'Hell No' on the debt increase.

And if they cared in the house GOP, they wouldn't have put MTG in charge of the DoGE committee. It's a clown show.

No, it's worse. Objectively worse, and that will continue to be felt until Democrats fix it.

Oh, this is all still true.

That's the funny part - Red State America did this to themselves.

There are no Walmarts in NYC.

Yes folks like AOC chase Amazon, Walmart and everything else out of NYC.

It's not just that there's no Walmarts in NYC, increasingly there's no affordable shopping or proper grocery stories period.

So so so funny....

Walmart is bad for local economies.

The Walmart Effect is a term used to refer to the economic impact felt by local businesses when a large company like Walmart (WMT) opens a location in the area. The Walmart Effect usually manifests itself by forcing smaller retail firms out of business and reducing wages for competitors' employees.

So you make my point for me.

Walmart engages in the Walmart effected undercutting those businesses with cheap shit from China.

So now Democrats are crying that that cheap shit from China will be more expensive and thus the Walmart Effect will be lessened.

Their concern trolling is noted and noneffective with regard to Trump and tariffs.
